The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies.

As the Stand Modelling Analyst, you will develop, maintain and enhance the software for the ministry's suite of stand growth models and associated decision support tools.  The position contributes to the development of stand growth models and associated applications and provides expert advice and client support to users of these models.  You will be a key member of the Stand Development Modelling team.  The stand growth models, decision-support tools, analyses, and expert knowledge provided by the Stand Development Modelling Team are required for the responsible and effective management of BC's natural resources.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Bachelor degree with coursework in quantitative methods and computer programming, and at least three years of work experience involving computer programming and statistical or mathematical applications, OR;
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with the C or C++ programming languages.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience working with additional modern programming languages.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience with the development, testing and enhancement of stand growth model software.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with computer simulation modelling experience in the life or natural resource sciences.
