Posting: Environmental Manager

We are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join us full-time in the Facilities Department as the Environmental Manager.

The Position: 

The Environmental Manager is responsible for management of campus environmental services, and project management. This includes the planning, implementation and maintenance of services related to cleaning and small-scale projects. They would also have supervisory responsibilities for staff involved in these activities.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Manage a variety of projects for COVID health, safety and cleaning plans including but not limited to management of PPE inventory levels and deployment and facility retrofit projects.
  • Along with the Director of Facilities, oversee environmental, safety and cleaning projects, including maintenance, audit, design, costing, preparation of documentation, coordinating the professional contractors/consultant selection process, defining project requirements and ensuring that project closeouts are completed promptly and efficiently.  
  • Provide direct service delivery with planning and coordinating activities of the cleaning services and manage the cleaning protocols and routines to ensure a safe and clean environment. 
  • Manage the housekeeping, waste management and pest control contracts and programs by performing inspections, audits and reporting for preventative control on a regular basis.
  • Assess feasibility and priority of requests, liaises with requesting staff to ensure that support is provided in a timely and efficient fashion.
  • Monitor contracted services and service contractors to ensure quality and effectiveness of services, issues purchase orders and reviews invoices for accuracy.
  • Actively participates in the operation of the Health and Safety team and ensures that statutory requirements are complied with.
  • Provide support to the Director of Facilities and assit with budgeting and budget monitoring.
  • Hire, develop and assess the performance of team members in accordance with the policies of the organization and the school's human resources practices.
  • Foster a team environment by clarifying team goals, valuing team input, building the commitment of team members, strengthening the team's collective skills and encouraging creativity and problem solving.
  • Monitor and approve overtime/vacation for team members and submit to payroll (3-5 employees)

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • A degree from a recognized university or an acceptable combination of education and experience related to facilities maintenance and project management.
  • Good computer skills, experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (email).
  • Good general knowledge of construction trades in order to be able to access and assign work projects either to internal staff or outside Contractors.
  • Good "eye for detail" and able to perform meaningful and accurate inspections of the property to be able to assess work required or to inspect work performed for conformity to specifications.
  • Knowledge of electronic access systems, preferably Keyscan and the ability to perform programming changes.
  • Able to use small power hand tools for the performance of minor repairs and installations.
  • Thorough knowledge of materials and their usages.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and safety guidelines, WHMIS, OHS Act, AODA, Building Codes, Fire Codes, Electrical Codes.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting, carrying and moving of heavy objects including materials and finished projects in excess of 65lbs.
  • Working in dusty and dirty conditions with possible extremes of temperature and a requirement for frequent use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Standing for long periods and working from a crouched, overhead or bending position.
