Job Summary and Requirements

This is a full-time two-year term position working 75 hours biweekly from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2026. Temporary assignments may be considered.

The Manager, Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre, (YBIC) is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Yukon Beringia Interpretative Centre, a cornerstone attraction in Yukon, which presents and exhibits information, artifacts and specimens from Yukon's Archaeology and Palaeontology Programs. This position manages all aspects of the YBIC including, capital and maintenance projects; the Program Coordinator, the Communications and Engagement Specialist and interpretive guides (10), public and educational programming (including online), exhibits, collections, outreach, special events and rentals. The Manager oversees the facility, security and grounds of the YBIC. The position manages capacity development initiatives to the wider Yukon heritage community, including overseeing the coordination of mentorships and training opportunities with post-secondary institutions, Yukon museums and Yukon First Nations. The Manager, YBIC, along with the Senior Manager of Heritage, Manager of Historic Sites, Manager of Arts, and the Senior Heritage Advisor report to the Director, Cultural Services, who reports to the Deputy Minister.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Museum Studies, Museum Management, History, Anthropology/Archaeology, Palaeontology, or related field.
  • Experience in a leadership role within an interpretive centre, First Nation cultural/heritage centre or similar institution.
  • Experience managing professional staff, complex projects with various participants/stakeholders, and budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with various stakeholders and partners, including but not limited to other museums, researchers/scientists, First Nations, community members, media, educators.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.
