Summary

The Senior Specialist Environment & Energy will support Bell Media meet its ambitious environment, social and governance (ESG) goals. This a dynamic role supporting a national team to run their operations sustainably and safely while meeting the requirements of ISO 14001 and 50001 management systems.

Key Responsibilities

Environment


• Plan, develop, and implement environmental strategies and policies throughout the organization.
• Oversee activities of team members to maintain an ISO 14001 environmental management system (EMS)
• Implement an annual corporate environmental action plan across the organization including the negotiation of task deliverables and timelines
• Ensure that operations comply with local, provincial, federal regulations and Bell specific environmental regulations.
• Develop and provide training content related to EHS field.
• Provide training to facility managers to ensure their understanding of environmental policies; Implement and maintain a formal and auditable process for communicating environmental and energy documentation changes to employees
• Support team members to participate in environmental audits to ensure conformance to the ISO 14001 standard and regulatory requirements (coordinate with regulatory agency for site visits and audits; and internal and external ISO audits)
• Develop corrective action plans to address non-conformances resulting from EMS and regulatory audits
• Implement and maintain a formal and auditable procedure for every incidents/Accidents/Hazards related to environmental, Health & safety, governmental inspections, public complaints and nuisances cases are reported to CR&E team and remediate in a timely manner; including overseeing and leading incident investigations and verifies implementation of corrective action
• Prepare and review periodic reporting, including Annual Criteria & Toxics Emissions Reporting, Greenhouse Gas, TSCA, Tier II, State, and Federal Waste, Discharge Monitoring, SPCC, RMP, and other applicable environmental compliance reporting
• Oversee fuel system upgrade and R-22 phase-out projects including scope development, budget management, contractor selection and contract negotiations.
• Oversee contaminated site remediation projects including scope verification, budget management, consultant selection and contract negotiations.
• Oversee environmental due diligence requirements such as the completion of environmental site assessments and developing baselines during property transactions.
• collaborate and provide support to the Health and Safety program across business unit on cross team initiatives
• Provides leadership, guidance and technical support from an environmental perspective to operational team members.

Energy
• Collect energy consumption data from utilities and benchmarks energy performance of buildings
• Prepares quarterly update reports including energy consumption and costs, energy breakdown, baseline energy use, reporting of annual goals and objectives, and future energy reduction impact of applicable projects
• Collaborate with facility manager and site leaders to implement measures to reduce utility usage and improve efficiency. Provides staff training and makes regular inspection of facilities for implementation of utility management measures.
• Promote renewable energy and water resources whenever appropriate. Identify opportunities for collaboration with other business units within Bell.

Critical Qualifications


• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study such as Environmental Science, Sustainability or Occupational Health and Safety
• Minimum five years of working experience in the environment, sustainability or health and safety field
• Experience in the interpretation and application of relevant environmental legislation, standards, statistical information and guidelines; including in-depth knowledge of federal and provincial laws and regulations relating to environmental matters; such as the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA)/ Federal Hazardous Waste Regulations, and experience in auditing of requirements
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience in project management, contract management, budget development, business case development, financial controls and analysis
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to ensure information is communicated appropriately
• Demonstrated ability to lead, facilitate and gain consensus with various stakeholders and teams
• Demonstrated experience providing process optimization by understanding the desired business outcomes
• Demonstrated experience creating a culture of continuous improvement and generating innovation
• Demonstrated change management skills
• Basic data and analytical skills to collect and interpret data to drive actions
• Demonstrated leadership skills to establish and maintain effective team culture
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 and 50001 management systems
• Ability to communicate in both official languages is a plus
• Experience working in a unionized environment is a plus
• Experience working with Canada Labour code part-II and OHSA act is a plus
