The Designer, Store Design & Planning supports the design and planning phases of designated projects. This role supports all aspects of the project including project design, planning, scheduling, resource allocation, budget management, technical direction, and vendor management.

Through the close monitoring of designated projects, they ensure a high level of compliance with quality standards.

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Working with the Manager, Design & Planning and internal stakeholders to develop building designs, identify project requirements and define the scope of architectural and interior design work for tender and construction.
  • Work with the Manager, Design & Planning to develop a comprehensive and detailed budget and maintain strict adherence to the budgetary guidelines; recommend and implement value-engineering proposals.
  • Support development of AFE and business case.
  • Oversee design projects of various sizes and scales ranging from in-house relays and small capital project to large-scale master plan renovations and builds.
  • Work with external suppliers/vendors and internal teams (e.g., architects, design firms, engineers, store development & strategy, sales, marketing, IT teams etc.) to develop designs and manage locations that effectively support company strategy.
  • Keep evergreen all applicable store footprints including engineer designed performance industry standards and product innovation.
  • Understand municipal regional and provincial building maintenance requirements and provide guidance to stores to ensure compliance (e.g. waste, fire codes and safety).
  • Build internal and external relations that promote an effective and productive environment.
  • Encourage teamwork, collaboration and partnership interface with internal and external teams to maximize execution success.
  • Demonstrate effective communications and mechanisms for resolving conflicts with stakeholders.
  • Comply with all Health & Safety policies and requirements.

The ideal candidate:

  • Post-secondary degree in Architecture, Interior Design or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years related project experience including architectural contract administration (CA), managing and reviewing submittals and shop drawings.
  • Extensive experience with an excellent track record in delivering on planning, design and execution.
  • Proven effective leadership capacity motivating teams.
  • Must be comfortable with communicating with / relaying direction to contractors and consultants.
  • Affinity for luxury retail, possess exceptional taste and have an eye for detail.
  • Some travel required.
  • Advanced AutoCAD and 3D Sketchup experience required.
