Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre, the successful candidate will:

  • Support the Director, ISLC, with research initiatives and preparation of reports and presentations;
  • Generate various reports, upon request from the Director, ISLC;
  • Prepare budgetary reports and tracks expenses for the Director, ISLC as necessary;
  • Book meetings and prepare meeting materials for the Director, ISLC as necessary;
  • Prepare honorariums, purchase orders, etc. and reconcile expense statements for the ISLC;
  • Provide clerical support to the Administrative Officer of Academic and Indigenous Programs;
  • Direct students, staff, faculty and visitors to appropriate personnel/services of the Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre (ISLC);
  • Answer general questions in person, over the telephone and via email for the ISLC;
  • Update and maintain student forms, documents, letters, emails, etc;
  • Order supplies, onboard new employees, ensure reception area is tidy and presentable;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School diploma or two (2) years of Community College in the related field;
  • Three (3) to five (5) of related experience in office administration, preferably including two (2) to three (3) years in a post-secondary environment;
  • Two to three years relevant experience with First Nation, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) communities;
  • Knowledge of FNMI culture and traditions and sensitivity to FNMI issues are essential;
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills essential;
  • Knowledge of standard office practices;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work under pressure;
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Solid knowledge of computer software and systems,including Datatel, Microsoft Office,Google docs etc;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of an Indigenous language (Anishinaabemowin, Cree, Mitchif) is an asset.

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
