The Opportunity:

The Assistant Site Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Site Superintendent with a strong focus on process through a timely and effective site program to ensure the goals and objectives of development are achieved

As an Assistant Site Superintendent, you will:

  • Plans and reviews specifications;
  • Assist in developing construction schedule and site management plan;
  • Review in advance the set up including enclosures, offices, access and utilities;
  • Monitors and implement efforts to maintain schedules;
  • Monitors good housekeeping and maintenance of the site management plan;
  • Ensures site safety program is adhered to by ALL parties throughout the entire site and the entire construction schedule;
  • Coordinates all activity between trades and suppliers;
  • Maintains daily comprehensive logs and ensure effective site meetings;
  • Implements and maintains a quality control program by setting standards with the use of mock-ups at all stages of construction;
  • Implements programs to ensure accuracy and quality control for all in-suite finishes and upgrades;
  • Ensures accuracy of all trade progress certificates;
  • Ensures trades maintain updated 'As Built" Commissioning, Occupancy and Warranty Programs;
  • Co-ordinates and implements procedures with all governing authorities and consultants to obtain the schedule occupancy permit;
  • Coordinates with all the trades and consultants the commissioning of all equipment in an effective and timely manner;
  • Ensures a construction inspection and deficiency rectification program is implemented and completed prior to the in-suite PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection);
  • Assists management in obtaining and verifying all 'As Builts' and manuals received from trades;
  • Monitors and maintain a monthly budget review with management;
  • Continually pursues cost effective alternatives to improve financial performance;
  • Prepares and submit construction project budget estimates;
  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget;
  • Plans and prepares construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules
  • Prepares contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors;
  • Develops and implements quality control programs;
  • Represents the company on matters such as business services and union contracts negotiation;
  • Prepares progress reports and issues progress schedules to clients;
  • Directs the purchase of building materials and land acquisitions;
  • Hires and supervises the activities of subcontractors and junior staff;
  • Ensures work is performed and communicated in compliance with Minto's Health and Safety Program, Occupational Health and Safety Act and WSI Act;
  • Attends Health and Safety training as required;
  • Ensures employees have the necessary training to perform their work and report workplace hazards/injuries to promptly;
  • Ensure all new workers receive a workplace specific Health and Safety Orientation

Other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, as requested by management.

Education: A College Diploma (i.e. construction management) or equivalent is required.

Experience: A minimum of one to two (1-2) years of relevant residential construction work experience

Specialized Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Computer experience is an asset including knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Strong Interpersonal and Communication skills (listening, verbal and written)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Skills in relationship building with established broad network of contacts including staff, trade partners, inspectors and suppliers
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Ontario Building Codes, Energy Star guidelines and Health & Safety Regulations
