Detailed Overview

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:
Reporting to the Planetary Health Lead, the Senior Consultant, Planetary Health champions project and change management methodologies, acts as a connection to the Lead for subject matter expertise, and is responsible to coordinate assigned planetary health priorities and initiatives. In partnership with clinical and operational leadership from various programs, networks and sites, the Senior Consultant supports activation and implementation of components of the Planetary Health Strategic Plan towards the planetary health goals of the organization. The Senior Consultant provides advice and consultation in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of priority planetary health initiatives, performance trends and recommends modifications to improve Planetary Health related programs.


Responsibilities

  1. Utilizes various project management and change management methodologies, to support the implementation of the Fraser Health wide Planetary Health strategy and work plan by planning, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating to further increase social and environmental sustainability, mitigating climate change, and furthering health adaptation.
  2. Supports the establishment of project charters, objectives, and schedules specific to the Planetary Health work plan in order to ensure effective collaboration with internal/external partners, appropriate resource use, progression of project activities and achievement of desired results. Development of other documentation may include proposals, briefing notes, work plans, risk management plans, change management plans, communication plans, and outcome measurement plans.
  3. Manages assigned projects through the project management lifecycle and liaises with partners toward the achievement of project goals through effectively communicating the project vision, advancing priorities, resolving/escalating issues, and providing recommendations to senior leaders.
  4. Collaborates with internal/external partners such as the Energy and Environmental Sustainability team and other subject matter experts to support strategy, implementation and achievement of project goals.
  5. Researches, scans and synthesizes literature and projects relating to current/future planetary trends, potential health system impacts, vulnerability/risk assessments, equity, change management and implementation science to shape the objectives of the Planetary Health Strategy work plan.
  6. Supports and coordinates engagement with other heath authorities through regional working groups to strategize on the implementation of Planetary Health initiatives.
  7. Participates in the development of knowledge translation and mobilization activities by incorporating student resources and research opportunities into planetary health work.
  8. Assesses the impact of the projects (change initiatives) from various partner perspectives and manages the impacts and interdependencies with other priority work in Planetary Health, and across Fraser Health.

Qualifications

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent at a minimum, to a Master's degree in a discipline related to public health, sustainability, climate action, or project management, plus five (5) years of recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Previous experience in change management in the health sector is an asset.

  • Working knowledge of climate change science, health impacts, health and social equity, and sustainable health care.
  • Indigenous cultural safety training and/or experience, a commitment to reconciliation, and a track record of creating respectful and effective relationship with Indigenous leaders, knowledge keepers, and representatives.
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills with the ability to professionally and respectfully engage with multiple partners in meaningful dialogue through advisory committees, meetings and workshops. Ability to integrate feedback from partners into project activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate relevant information from a variety of scientific and engineering disciplines as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize large amounts of information and knowledge from a number of sources including scientific literature, government reports, and partner consultations.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work, work under time constraints to meet deadlines; handle interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
