The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Sustaining Projects Manager to join our Project Execution team in St. John’s.
This permanent position will be on a Monday to Friday schedule working primarily from the St. John’s office with regular visits to the Voisey's Bay Mine Site and Long Harbour Operations.
As a Sustaining Projects Manager, you will lead the planning, engineering, and execution of sustaining CAPEX and OPEX projects across Long Harbour and Voisey’s Bay, ensuring alignment across operations, safety, procurement, and the project team.
Your experience and skills will drive value by overseeing project prioritization, budgeting, and long-term capital planning, including scope development, cost estimation, and risk ranking to support strategic investment decisions. You will also ensure successful field execution by maintaining accountability for health and safety, quality, construction, commissioning, and seamless project handover, delivering projects on time and within budget.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Coordinate cross-functional project teams to meet cost, schedule, scope, and execution targets
- Develop work plans, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with key stakeholders (Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, etc.)
- Evaluate and approve contracts and procurement bids, ensuring technical capability and alignment with project needs
- Ensure accountability for health, safety, sustainability, and effective integration between projects and operations
- Oversee contractors and manage the execution of CAPEX and OPEX portfolios, including field work directives
- Manage scope changes, risks, and cross-functional issues to maintain progress and meet project timelines
- Lead project reporting, forecasting, stakeholder communications, and coordination meetings
- Build strong internal and external partnerships while supporting team leadership, workforce planning, and alignment with business objectives

About You
Education:
- A minimum of an undergraduate degree in engineering is required.
- P. Eng or equivalent is required.
- Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 11 years experience in a similar leadership role is required.
Skills:
- Proven record of leadership and successful management of projects with a capital cost in the region of +$100 million
- Knowledge and proficiency of all aspects of Project Controls, including costing, project tracking, and scheduling
- Must possess planning and problem-solving skills and be able to set clear, measurable goals
- Excellent time management without sacrificing quality. Ability to be organized, efficient, and able to prioritize
- Ability to negotiate well and handle any issues with diplomacy and tact
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Teamwork and collaborative stakeholder engagement
- Strong safety background and risk management

At Long Harbour, we operate a state-of-the-art processing plant, which refines nickel concentrate from Vale Base Metals’ Voisey's Bay mine, located in Labrador, into nickel, copper, and cobalt products. This plant is a cornerstone of our commitment to value-added processing in Canada. Meanwhile, the Voisey's Bay mine is one of the world's most substantial nickel deposits. It provides high-quality nickel, copper, and cobalt, essential for the 21st century economy.
