Pauktuutit, as the national voice of Inuit women in Canada, has a key role to play in ensuring the use of a gender-equity lens in policies impacting Inuit women, girls and gender-diverse Inuit. We promote greater progress in priority areas, across health and well-being, violence and abuse prevention, safety, and social and economic development. Our ability to do so depends heavily on partnership across government, key funders, Inuit community groups and other stakeholder organizations.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Director of Policy and Advocacy, the Manager will lead both the day-to-day operations of the team within the social and economic development portfolio and drive the initiatives to support the overall goals of the organization. The role requires considerable skill in relationship building, including the ability to develop and foster partnerships and to collaborate effectively with community groups across Inuit Nunangat, agencies, and other stakeholders. The Manager is responsible to work directly with the Director and across the Policy and Advocacy team to coordinate and manage initiatives within the portfolio.
Primary Responsibilities Include:

Provides leadership to the Policy and Advocacy team and owns project and department specific work-related supervision of the team within the portfolio area.

Provide day-to-day coaching, direction, and leadership to employees; includes real time management or resources performance management and development, facilitating team meetings, escalation resolution and response.

Actively participates in one-on-one meetings with Director, providing updates and clear work plans.

Manage resources, processes, and procedures to ensure effective management of workplans and on time delivery.

Works with the policy analyst and finance team to coordinate unit reporting with input from various staff members, ensuring quality of information and format for presentation to key stakeholders including senior leadership and funders.

Acts as a central resource to the Policy and Advocacy team and collaborates across the organization to create presentations or speaking notes, including strategic planning, committees and advisory groups, partnership meetings, policy briefs and conferences.

Acts as the central resource to the Policy and Programs team to track deliverables, and more broadly supports the Policy and Advocacy Director in tracking the strategic plan updates, organizational goals, and objectives.

Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates projects across the department including regular activity reports and deliverables.

Identify funding sources and develop relevant project proposals, agreements, and budgets.

Supports report and proposal management including reading/ editing some of the reports or proposals.

Collaborate with team members (business development) to ensure consistency and alignment with broader organizational needs

Supports process management to enable efficiency and effectiveness in the Policy and Advocacy team and ensures collaboration between Policy and Advocacy and the entire organization.

Supports process management to enable efficiency and effectiveness in the Policy and Advocacy team. Organizes and creates standards, best practices across Policy and Advocacy.

Ensures collaboration between the Policy and Advocacy team and the rest of the organization by attending and actively participating in weekly team meetings

Supports the Director of Policy and Advocacy on an as needed basis including providing support to the Policy and Advocacy business during short-term absences.
Administration

Plan and/or facilitate workshops, meetings; work plan logistics/travel.

Monitor direct expenditures, schedule and technical performance within approved budgets.

Support quarterly reporting process in collaboration with Director, including reports to funding organizations in a timely and professional manner.

Maintain department workplans in consultation and collaboration with the Director.
Leadership

Create and inspire a collaborative, results oriented Programs team to support Pauktuutit’s vision and mission.

Provides direction to ensure a productive, positive, and healthy work environment in alignment with the cultural priorities and relevant policies and procedures.

Administration:
- Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, and materials tracking systems including, including MS EXCEL and Access
Education:
- A university or college degree in business planning, community development, sociology, gender studies, and/ or other equivalent combination of education and recent relevant work experience.
Experience:

5+ years of prior experience in Policy and Advocacy, planning, reporting & analytics.

Experience leading teams

Experience as a policy generalist with general understanding of Pauktuutit’s priority mandates of Health; Socio-Economic Development; Violence and Abuse Prevention and Justice.

Ability to develop positive working relationships within a tight-knit team and build trusted relationships across all levels – stakeholders include, departmental leadership, consultants, funders, and community interest groups

Experience working with Inuit and knowledge current political, social, and economic conditions of Inuit is an asset

Strong relationship building skills with personal credibility and high impact communication and presentation skills, with extensive experience with senior executive interaction.

Ability to travel to remote communities as required

Language – Fluency in English; working knowledge of Inuktut (oral and written) is desirable.
