About the role
Based at Goldboro Gold Project in Goldboro, NS, we currently have an exciting opportunity for one (1) Lead, Planning and Scheduling to join our NexGold team.
Reporting to the Manager, Project Controls and Risk, this role will be responsible for supporting and leading planning and scheduling activities for the assigned Project. The role will include development, maintenance, monitoring, and reporting of the project schedule, including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and key owner activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Controls team, project management, area managers, functional leads, EPC/EPCM contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders to ensure the project schedule is accurate, integrated, logically sequenced, and aligned with the overall project execution strategy.
Initially, this role will have regular travel to our Corporate Office in Toronto and periodic trips to the assigned Project. This role will transition to an on-site rotational work schedule during the assigned Project’s construction phase. Initially, this role will be assigned to the Goldboro Gold Project in Goldboro, Nova Scotia. Following the Project’s construction phase at Goldboro, this role may have the opportunity to transition to operations at Goldboro or may be assigned to the Project team at the Goliath Gold Complex near Dryden, Ontario, or other project sites in the future.

Key Responsibilities: • Lead the development, maintenance, and regular update of the overall project master schedule and detailed project execution schedules. • Establish and maintain key project milestones, schedule logic, activity sequencing, calendars, constraints, and critical path methodology. • Prepare and maintain the Basis of Schedule document, including assumptions, exclusions, calendars, coding structure, schedule methodology, and update process. • Support development of the Schedule Management Plan and ensure schedule practices are aligned with project controls procedures. • Integrate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, permitting, owner activities, and contractor schedules into the overall project schedule. • Lead the review of contractor and consultant schedule submissions for completeness, logic, sequencing, interfaces, progress, and alignment with project requirements. • Monitor critical path and near-critical path activities and identify potential risks to key project milestones. • Lead regular schedule update cycles, including collection of progress information from contractors, consultants, and internal project team members. • Prepare schedule variance analysis, look-ahead schedules, progress curves, milestone reports, and management-level schedule dashboards. • Communicate schedule performance, trends, risks, and areas of concern in a timely and clear manner. • Support development of staffing histograms, progress curves, S-curves, and other schedule-related performance indicators. • Provide input to weekly and monthly project reports, including schedule status, forecast completion dates, critical path updates, and mitigation actions. • Identify schedule slippages and support development of recovery plans or mitigation strategies with project stakeholders. • Other duties: Demonstrate a personal commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental responsibilities; Regular business travel to the Corporate Office in Toronto; Occasional regional travel (i.e., day trips to communities surrounding the Project sites) during the engineering phase of the Project; Regular turnarounds at site during the execution phase of the Project (site schedule still to be determined); and Additional responsibilities or tasks as reasonably assigned.
Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline. • Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in planning/scheduling of engineering, contracting and procurement, construction and commissioning activities for major capital projects in mining, oil & gas, and/or heavy infrastructure environments. • Must have a breadth of experience overseeing all aspects of planning and scheduling on major projects. Working knowledge of scheduling software (e.g. Primavera and MS Project) is required. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge in project controls related software is essential. • Excellent leadership qualities, management skills and excellent written and oral communication skills to interface with all contacts including all levels of business and external stakeholders. • Able to collaborate with all levels on the owner’s team and with external contractors to support their needs for information and analyses, and to provide feedback and guidance.
Preferred Qualifications: • Strong technical competency in project planning and scheduling, including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, critical path method scheduling, and earned value progress measurement is an asset.
Role Details: • Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm EST. During construction phase, schedule will change to a 14/14 rotation schedule working on-site at the assigned Project. • Employment Type: Full-time permanent • Work Arrangements: Work from home office with periodic travel to Project Sites and regular travel to the Corporate Office in Toronto, if the incumbent does live in the Toronto area.
