About the role

Intermediate or Senior Fire & Life Safety Consultant

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop project-specific fire and life safety strategies to assess and manage risk

  • Apply prescriptive building codes and standards and performance-based design methodologies

  • Conduct technical analyses including:

    • Fire and smoke modelling
  • Heat transfer analysis

  • Evacuation and pedestrian modelling

  • Review architectural and engineering drawings for fire and life safety compliance

  • Prepare technical reports, studies, and supporting documentation

  • Attend and contribute to project meetings with clients, consultants, and authorities having jurisdiction Conduct site visits and field reviews during construction

  • Support research, innovation, and continuous improvement within LMDG

  • For senior candidates: provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff

  • The base salary range for Intermediate candidates is $80K-$120K per annum

  • The base salary range for Senior candidates is $110K-$150K per annum.

Education, Skills, and Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
    (Environmental Design, Architectural Technology, or equivalent experience considered*)*

  • Master’s degree in Fire Engineering or a related engineering discipline is an asset

Experience

  • 4+ years of broad fire engineering experience for intermediate candidates

  • 7+ years of broad fire engineering experience for senior candidates

  • Current knowledge of Canadian building codes and related standards

  • Experience with:

    • Fire dynamics and fire modelling
  • Performance-based fire and life safety design

  • Evacuation modelling

  • Fire engineering surveys and property assessments

  • Technical research and analysis

  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects across design and construction phases

  • Familiarity with a wide range of construction project types and delivery methods

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Bluebeam, and Revit

  • Strong understanding of the interaction and integration of fire safety systems with other building systems

Professional Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • High standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity

As an Intermediate or Senior Fire Protection & Life Safety Engineer Consultant, you will take on a client-facing role that integrates technical fire engineering, project management, and leadership opportunities. You will be responsible for exploring, mitigating, and clearly communicating fire-related risk through the development of project-specific fire and life safety strategies. This role involves applying both prescriptive and performance-based approaches to demonstrate building code compliance on complex projects across a variety of sectors.
