Job Description Rodeo FX is looking for an experienced VFX Supervisor to join its Toronto studio. This is a key creative leadership role for a senior supervisor with a strong track record on large-scale, high-end feature and episodic projects. We are open to candidates based outside Canada who bring significant VFX supervision experience on features and/or premium episodic work, provided they are open to being based in Toronto and working from the studio full-time. Beyond project delivery, this role is expected to have a meaningful presence on the studio floor. The VFX Supervisor will help shape the creative and technical culture of the team, build trust with artists and production partners, mentor supervisors and artists, and contribute to a strong, collaborative, high-performance environment. The VFX Supervisor ensures that leading creative and technical approaches are used to realize the creative vision of each project. They oversee the work of their project team, make decisions related to workflow and execution, monitor progress and quality, and ensure alignment with the client’s creative vision. They also maintain positive client relationships, present work, find solutions to creative challenges, and report on progress as needed. Main responsibilities: Spearhead the creative and technical strategy for assigned VFX projects, ensuring a strong global vision is applied throughout production to meet the client’s creative objectives; In collaboration with the VFX Producer and Executive Producer, support the completion of bids and contribute to the planning of project scope, methodology and resource needs; Communicate the creative vision and objectives clearly to the project team, ensuring responsibilities, expectations and ownership are well understood; Find creative and practical ways to protect the client’s artistic vision while delivering projects on time, on budget and to Rodeo FX’s quality standards; Closely monitor the overall creative process, including daily reviews of assets and shots, regular feedback sessions, and hands-on guidance to artists and supervisors; Conduct in-person turnovers with artists and the VFX team, ensuring clarity, alignment and momentum across the floor; Actively mentor artists and supervisors, helping develop strong problem-solving habits, ownership, collaboration and a builder mindset within the team; Be a visible and engaged presence in the studio, contributing to a positive work climate, strong floor culture and adherence to company values; Be present on set for the filming of VFX sequences when requested by Production; In collaboration with the VFX Producer, ensure that assigned projects have a well-defined production schedule, appropriate resources, performance targets and milestones; Alongside the VFX Producer, maintain regular communication with clients regarding project status, creative direction, challenges and solutions; In conjunction with the VFX Producer, monitor project budgets regularly, review discrepancies with Production, and identify solutions to keep projects on time and within budget; Review mid-project and post-mortem assessments, identify areas for improvement and ensure learnings are applied going forward; Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technological advances, creative approaches and work methods within the VFX industry; Positively represent Rodeo FX within the VFX and related communities, locally and internationally, including through conferences, panels and industry events when relevant. Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of experience in visual effects; Minimum of 3 years of experience in a VFX supervisory role; Significant supervision experience on high-end feature films and/or premium episodic projects; experience on AAA-level productions is a strong asset; Strong understanding of the full VFX production process, from concept through final delivery; Proven ability to lead teams creatively and technically while maintaining quality, efficiency and collaboration; Strong mentorship skills and the ability to help build, influence and nurture a positive studio culture; Comfortable working closely with artists, supervisors, producers and clients in a fast-paced production environment; Strong communication, presentation and problem-solving skills; Good knowledge of ShotGrid/Shotgun project management software; Open to working from the Toronto studio full-time in order to support team leadership, mentorship and floor culture; Must be available for occasional international travel.
