The Systems Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, managing and maintaining the hospital’s Digital Health infrastructure and systems.

The role involves Operating Systems configuration and baselining for Virtual and Physical, Windows and Linux servers including monitoring, device management and release upgrades/security patching. This includes configuration and management of other infrastructure components such VMWare, SAN, M365, Exchange, Azure, SCCM/MECM, backup systems and other security tools for email security/vulnerability scanning/ inventory and risk assessment.

Working with vendors and internal teams to design and build new solutions to meet our business requirements.

Additionally, the Systems Administrator plays a role in monitoring the security of the Hospital’s network and systems and collaborate with out cybersecurity department for investigation and response to potential security or privacy breaches.

Systems Infrastructure Management and building

Design, implement, and maintain the hospital’s Infrastructure system such as:

  • Provide installation, configuration, and testing of service packs, hotfixes and new software releases of the Windows server and client operating systems
  • SCCM/MECM architecture, administration, and optimization
  • Conduct ongoing performance monitoring/optimization and security hardening of all servers
  • Troubleshoot to isolate system problems to servers, clients, software, or the network
  • Support the installation and configuration of hardware and software supporting server and client computers and devices as needed.
  • Work with vendors/ system owners and other Digital Health team members to research, configure and test specialized system setup for new systems.
  • Set-up and maintain core infrastructure servers such as DNS/DHCP/MFA/AD/ADFS etc.
  • Configure/monitor and test backup systems and procedures (Dell PPDM/ Cyber Vault)
  • Assist in utilizing technical and security knowledge to assist in reviewing policy and procedures for the department and hospital
  • Assist with planning the installation of applications that are installed on Windows server and client platforms
  • Develop, test and implement updates to applications, operating systems and utility packages that are installed on servers and clients
  • Monitor and respond to security events based on current established protocols and procedures.
  • Documents all aspects of system and infrastructure configuration, and maintains and procedures related to the same
  • Proven expertise in Windows and Linux Server environments.
  • Responsible for operating systems image creation and security hardening.
  • Proficiency in server and desktop virtualization. Expertise in office M365 and Azure tenant setup and maintenance

Systems Monitoring

  • Monitoring of all hospital systems (Examples include) :
  • Exchange/M365 E-mail and services such as SharePoint and Teams, etc...
  • MFA/2FA
  • ADFS
  • VMware virtual and physical hosts.
  • SAN Infrastructure and storage space
  • EDR systems.
  • Email Security systems
  • Network Infrastructure (Wired and Wireless)
  • SHINE shared Meditech Infrastructure
  • External links to other facilities/locations.
  • Installs and/or coordinates installation and configuration of new software releases/upgrades to operating systems and applications software resident on host systems; ensuring compatibility of software applications within current operating environment
  • Monitor/test back-up processes for all systems.
  • Monitors each system for system-specific security issues, back-up system compliance, and storage management using standard tools such as Microsoft Systems Centre Operation Manager and Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager
  • Ensures that the organization is protected by maintaining adequate software licensing and supervising audits of software license compliance
  • Documents all aspects of systems configuration, standards and maintains department policies and procedures related to the same
  • Monitor the life cycle of infrastructure and provide recommendations on upgrade paths and work with vendors to provide budgetary pricing.

Network and System Security

  • Assists in design and monitor the security of the Hospital’s network and systems based on policies and standards set by Cyber leadership.
  • Investigate/report and respond to possible policy violations and breaches as specified.
  • Monitors security discussion forums, designs system security to avoid breaches, and promptly installs software patches related to system security as they are made available
  • Responsible for maintenance of the enterprise security systems including but not limited to SIEM logging, EDR, email security etc.
  • Documents all aspects of Active Directory and System security infrastructure and maintain department policies and procedures related to the same

Project Management

  • Assist in coordinating and implementing projects through the phases of consulting with end users, selection, project planning, acquisition, implementation, testing, training and documentation
  • Projects typically require extensive communication with external partners to exchange technical data and end-users for notification of changes to systems
  • Provide technical expertise in the evaluation of response, contract management, budget preparation, and verification of equipment delivery and completion of work.
  • Document project progress and communicate key milestones to Digital Health leadership

What you bring to Oak Valley Health:

10+ years in system administration

A degree in a related IT field is preferred

Strong security knowledge is important (best practices/ least privilege)

Hospital system experience is highly desirable

Recent certifications such as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional, VMware Certified Professional or Citrix Certified Advanced Administrator is preferred

ITIL v4.0 Foundation Certification preferred

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Systems and network management including administration, configuration, protocols (TCP/IP), storage and fault management.

Advanced knowledge of VMWare, M365, VDI platforms such as AVD.

Strong Knowledge of Centralized backup systems and best practice.

Experience scripting in Powershell, VBS and batch files

Demonstrated communication, negotiation and superior people skills

A customer service focus and the ability to work independently and professionally managing multiple projects

Excellent project management skills

Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard.

Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.

Work Schedule:

Primarily days with evening and weekend on-call as required.
