Baker Tilly is a leading advisory and accounting firm dedicated to building better futures. With global reach and local roots, we combine the scale of a network with the trust of strong relationships. From audit and tax to consulting and specialist advisory services, we help clients navigate complexity and seize opportunity with clarity.

We are seeking a Senior Manager or Director, Indirect Tax to join our growing Tax practice in Toronto or Vancouver. This is a leadership role focused on indirect tax advisory, compliance, controversy, and practice development. The successful candidate will work closely with partners and clients to navigate increasingly complex GST/HST, PST, QST, sales and use tax, and indirect tax matters across a broad range of industries.

This role offers the opportunity to build and shape an emerging area of specialization while serving as a trusted advisor to clients and a technical resource to colleagues across the firm.

Your Impact

Lead complex indirect tax advisory engagements involving GST/HST, provincial sales taxes, QST, customs, and other indirect tax matters. Advise clients on transactional planning, corporate reorganizations, M&A transactions, due diligence reviews, supply chain structuring, and tax optimization opportunities. Identify indirect tax risks, exposures, and opportunities across a wide range of industries and business structures. Review and oversee indirect tax compliance engagements and support clients through audits, assessments, objections, and appeals. Act as the firm's internal subject matter expert on indirect tax matters and collaborate with Canadian, cross border, US, and advisory teams. Develop and maintain strong client relationships while serving as a trusted business advisor. Lead engagement teams, manage project budgets, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality client service. Mentor, coach, and develop managers, senior staff, and other team members. Contribute to practice growth through business development, networking, proposal development, and identification of new service opportunities. Monitor legislative developments and emerging trends to ensure clients receive proactive and relevant advice. Support thought leadership initiatives, client seminars, technical publications, and internal training programs.

What You Bring To The Table

CPA designation required. Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program or equivalent advanced tax education is considered an asset. 8+ years of progressive Canadian indirect tax experience in public practice, industry, government, or a combination thereof. Deep technical knowledge of GST/HST, PST, QST, and related indirect tax legislation. Experience managing complex advisory and compliance engagements. Strong understanding of indirect tax implications in mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and cross border transactions. Proven ability to build and manage senior-level client relationships. Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development experience. Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills. Proven ability to identify opportunities and contribute to practice growth.

What Success Looks Like

In this role, you will:

Be recognized internally and externally as a trusted indirect tax advisor. Drive growth of the firm's indirect tax service line. Deliver practical, commercially focused advice that creates value for clients. Develop future leaders within the practice. Strengthen collaboration across tax, audit, advisory, and wealth service lines. Contribute meaningfully to the strategic growth of the firm's tax practice.

Preferred Experience

Experience at a Big 4, national, or mid market public accounting firm. Exposure to indirect tax due diligence and transaction services engagements.
