Knowledge Management and Learning Officer
About the role
The Knowledge Management and Learning Officer, is a key role on the Green Municipal Fund’s Adaptation in Action Capacity Development Team under the Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation (LLCA) initiative. This team is focused on building municipal capacity for implementing climate adaptation projects that help communities prepare for and respond to the impacts of climate change. The Knowledge Management and Learning Officer is responsible for mobilizing existing and new knowledge products (guides, tools, case studies, videos, training materials, online courses, etc), from conception, through to writing, production, and sharing of resources. Developing new knowledge products entails gathering content and information through collaboration with internal teams; external partners, contractors, and subject-matter experts; and through research and collation of existing information. The Officer supports team objectives by developing and disseminating timely resources needed by the municipal sector that help to advance the quality and quantity of equitable climate change adaptation actions at the local level. What you'll be doing: Provide project-level leadership to mobilize existing and new knowledge products such as guides, tools, online courses, etc. related to municipal climate change adaptation implementation. Seek ways to communicate municipal, partner, and the programs’ success through effective storytelling. Research and provide advice and recommendations on trends, major issues, and gaps in resources available to the municipal sector and related to climate change adaptation implementation. Implement Reconciliation and Anti-Racism, Equity and Inclusion considerations into the way work is conducted and into the content of Capacity Development activities. Manage the coordination of consultants and vendors engaged in the production of knowledge products and ensure the highest quality of product within a managed budget and timeline. Work with other GMF teams, including the Communication team, to promote, disseminate, and share knowledge products once they are complete. Coordinate with other GMF teams, including the larger Capacity Development and LLCA teams, to ensure knowledge product topics and timing are aligned. Work with GMF teams to follow existing project management and knowledge mobilization processes and strategies and suggest improvement recommendations as warranted. Participate in Capacity Development, LLCA, GMF and FCM team meetings, training, communication and reporting. Review and analyze LLCA-funded initiatives (including municipal projects and capacity development partner grants) to identify best practices and lessons learned for knowledge sharing and capacity building, and conduct interviews as needed. Develop a strong understanding of the needs of LLCA target audience of Canadian municipalities through research, analysis and relationship building. Advise the CD Adaptation in Action team on the creation and delivery of learning activities. Collect and report performance and knowledge product uptake data. May be called upon to undertake projects or other duties as needed.
Your skills make us better: University degree in urban planning, climate change, social sciences, political science, environmental studies/ environmental science, environmental/civil engineering, public administration, information/ project management or equivalent experience. Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible work experience in project management, communications, developing written materials for a professional audience, developing learning activities online, and/or managing program activities, including experience in working with consultants. Experience producing knowledge tools and resources (e.g. case studies, guides, spreadsheet tools, videos, webinars, courses). Experience in knowledge management activities (e.g. the coordination of knowledge products, organizing processes, working with consultants, mobilizing tools and resources, measuring and evaluating knowledge resource use, etc.). Experience in delivering group presentations and facilitating discussions (online and in person). Knowledge of climate change adaptation at a local level. The ability to work in both official languages (English and French) is required. Knowledge of the Canadian municipal sector and working with elected officials. Experience working with or within the municipal sector is an asset. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software suite. Knowledge and use of Zoom, Asana, PowerBI, CRM, and SharePoint is an asset. Experience with the Lean methodology is an asset. Experience with video production and/or course / curriculum development is an asset.
