RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summaryThe McGill Division of Thoracic Surgery is a global leader in oncology and surgery outcomes data science and peri-operative clinical trials. We are seeking a dynamic and driven Clinical Research Manager to lead and manage clinical research activities in collaboration with surgeon-scientists. This role involves overseeing a team of clinical research staff, managing multiple clinical research projects, and supporting innovative work in surgical oncology, specifically in the area of upper gastrointestinal and lung cancer.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong leadership background, excellent organizational skills, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

General Duties

Specific Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

Supervise a team of clinical research coordinators and data entry clerks in the successful execution of clinical trials and observational studies in thoracic oncology.

Managing site operation of clinical trials, multinational collaborations and local projects, ensuring proper execution: patient enrolment, data entry, and regulatory compliance.

Lead and delegate tasks, monitor team performance, and ensure adherence to project timelines and protocols.

Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new personnel, ensuring that they are well versed in unit SOPs and research protocols.

Manage feasibility assessments and regulatory submissions to local REB and Health Canada.

Oversee communications with study sponsors and leads, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of study progress.

Design and manage clinical databases and electronic case report forms (eCRFs) for clinical research projects and biobanks in thoracic oncology.

Hold monthly research meetings to review the progress of various research projects, ensure proper resource allocation, and identify potential bottlenecks.

Support medical students, research fellows, and other team members in the design of research protocols, ensuring access to relevant data, and tracking progress through to publication.

Identify irregular trends in unit operation and implement corrective actions as necessary

Assist in data analysis, generate data-driven reports to support quality improvement measures in peri-operative care.

Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

Perform other duties and projects related to the position as required.

Other Requirements

Proven experience in clinical research management. Strong leadership skills and experience managing research teams. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills Outstanding organizational skills Fluent in spoken and written English, proficiency in French is a strong asset. In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, including Health Canada submissions and REB approvals. Experience in database management, and data entry systems (e.g., eCRFs). Experience in manuscript preparation, and presenting research findings. Strong bio-statistical analysis skills M.Sc. degree could be considered for candidates with significant work experience

Education: PhD

Field of Study: Health Sciences or Epidemiology

Work Experience: at least 2 years of post-graduate experience in clinical research and project management.

Required Skills

Advanced knowledge of oral and written French is required. An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires complex writing or in-depth analysis of documents in English related to a research project.

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)

Pay Scale: 71,598.80$ - 132,969.20$Commensurate with education and experience

Work Shift: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm

Work Site: MGH, 1650 Cedar Ave.
