About the Role Calgary Seniors is looking for a Manager of Social Work to provide leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for our Social Work department.
This role oversees key programs including Outreach, In Place, and SeniorConnect, ensuring services remain trauma-informed, client-centered, strengths-based, and responsive to the diverse and complex needs of older adults. The Manager of Social Work combines program leadership, staff oversight, evaluation, service planning, grant-funded project management, and community collaboration. This role supports clear supervision structures, high-quality practice standards, strong team culture, and ongoing innovation across the department.
This is a strong fit for someone who brings social work or human services leadership experience, excellent judgment, systems thinking, and a deep commitment to supporting older adults through practical, compassionate, and coordinated care.
What You’ll Do In this role, you will:
Lead the Social Work department, including Outreach, In Place, and SeniorConnect. Ensure programs are client-centered, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and aligned with Calgary Seniors’ mission and Outcome Framework. Provide leadership and mentorship to the SeniorConnect Team Lead and direct reports across the Social Work department. Oversee program goals, policies, service standards, intake coordination, case assignment, and service delivery across programs. Support staff in providing effective case management, crisis response, advocacy, system navigation, and short-term stabilization. Strengthen integration between Social Work, Seniors Social Supports, operations, fund development, leadership, and community partners. Co-lead the redevelopment of the SeniorConnect program with the SeniorConnect Team Lead and Social Connections Manager. Oversee social work-related projects, including grant-funded initiatives, ensuring timelines, deliverables, budgets, and reporting requirements are met. Lead data collection, program evaluation, performance measurement, and continuous improvement across Social Work programs. Prepare or contribute to reports on program outcomes, funding utilization, client impact, and emerging trends. Collaborate with Fund Development and leadership on grant applications, reporting, and impact storytelling. Build and maintain strong relationships with funders, government agencies, community organizations, and sector partners. Represent Calgary Seniors in collaborative initiatives, working groups, advocacy efforts, and community conversations related to seniors’ well-being. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, accountable, and engaged team culture where staff feel supported, clear on expectations, and empowered to do excellent work.
What You Bring We are looking for someone with: A degree or diploma in Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, Gerontology, or a related field. Active registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers, or eligibility to register, considered an asset. 5+ years of progressive experience in social work, human services, or a related field, including staff leadership and team oversight. Strong knowledge of case management, crisis response, advocacy, system navigation, and senior-serving community resources. Experience designing and supporting supervision structures, staff coaching, reflective practice, and professional development. Deep knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based, person-centered practice. Strong understanding of the needs of older adults, including housing, health, benefits, social connection, crisis response, and systems navigation. Experience with program evaluation, grant reporting, outcome tracking, and using data to support program improvement. Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and moving pieces. Proficiency with iCarol, Airtable, Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and other digital tools. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to be empathetic, clear, strategic, and grounded under pressure. High emotional intelligence and the ability to navigate sensitive situations, adapt communication styles, and build trust across diverse groups. Proven ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, including social work, volunteer engagement, fund development, administration, and leadership. A resilient and self-aware approach to working in the context of trauma, complexity, and high community need.
Working Conditions
This is a full-time role based in Calgary, Alberta. The position is hybrid, with in-office, community, and partner-facing responsibilities based on program needs.
Some local travel within Calgary and surrounding areas may be required for meetings, community engagement, partnership work, and program support.
