About The Role
Reporting to the Director of Recreation*,* Parks & Tourism, the Tourism and Events Development Officer is focused on increasing the economic activity and quality of life in the District of Lunenburg. The Officer is responsible for developing and promoting tourism and event growth within the District of Lunenburg, highlighting and championing the diverse assets of MODL and its ability to attract visitors.

Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the tourism sector strategy which will leverage attractions, events, and facilities to increase economic activity.
- Conduct Investment Attraction and economic development research for the Tourism and Events Sector, including gathering data and analysis as required.
- Manage specific economic development projects and support tourism and events sector development to advance the goal of economic growth and increase opportunity in the District.
- Manages MODL online tourism, recreation and events presence including, but not limited to, the tourism & recreation website(s) and social media channels.
- Refine and coordinate MODL’s approach to recreational tourism and events by identifying new opportunities and using market research and best practices to highlight areas where MODL may wish to focus its resources.
- Develops, coordinates, and assists in major events, seasonal festivities and activities with the potential of attracting day and overnight visitors.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, consultants, corporate community, MODL staff and organizations
- Provides effective and efficient management of the Visitor Information Centre including staffing, marketing, and budget approval.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include:
- University degree in Commerce, Economic Development, Marketing or a related field; and
- A minimum 2-years’ experience in a related field; OR
- An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Economic Development experience in the public sector would be considered an asset;
- Experience in marketing, sales and account management in the private sector would be an asset;
- Program delivery and project management experience would be an asset;
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral;
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to exercise diplomacy and good judgment;
- Strong project management skills and negotiation skills;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications;
- Basic understanding of mapping and GIS systems would be considered and asset.
- Knowledge of and experience using digital communication tolls would be an asset.
Terms of Employment
- Full time term (for a pregnancy/parental leave)
- Office Environment
- Required to work with Management, Staff, Council and a range of stakeholders, with complex priorities and perspectives;
- Evening meetings and events as necessary.
- Salary range: $76,196 to $95,247, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- The responsibilities of this position are expected to change and evolve with a shift in tourism and as the department transitions to a community development and well being department.
