About the role

Job Summary: We are seeking a talented and hands-on Senior Industrial Designer to join the Godin Productions creative team. This role sits at the intersection of creative design, engineering detail, and manufacturing execution — and it’s ideal for a designer who wants to see their ideas built, installed, and refined in the real world.

You’ll be responsible for the three-dimensional side of our retail and brand work: designing permanent and semi-permanent displays, branded fixtures, signage systems, and in-store environments, and managing the entire product lifecycle from initial concept and material sourcing through manufacturing, logistics, and possibly even final on-site installation. You think in three dimensions, you understand materials and fabrication, and you know what it takes to design something that looks premium on a retail floor and holds up through an entire selling season (or longer).

What makes this role distinctive is the environment you’ll work in. Godin has its own manufacturing facility in Toronto — which means you’ll work closely alongside the people who build what you design, with direct access to fabrication at every stage of a project. This is not a desk-only role. You’ll regularly engage with our production floor, prototyping, and installation environments. The ideal candidate brings solid industrial design experience across multiple materials and manufacturing methods, and meaningful familiarity with structural and corrugated design. This dual capability allows you to flex across the full range of Godin’s project work, stepping in to support the structural team on POP and temporary display programs when needed.

Key Responsibilities: • Design permanent and semi-permanent retail displays, branded fixtures, signage systems, and in-store environments — taking projects from concept to production to installation.

• Manage the full product lifecycle: initial concept, material sourcing, production-ready drawings, manufacturing coordination, logistics, and on-site installation.

• Develop concepts using sketches, 3D modeling, renderings, and physical mock-ups, communicating design intent clearly to both clients and internal production teams.

• Create detailed production drawings with materials specifications, hardware callouts, tolerances, and fabrication details.

• Work closely with Godin’s on-site manufacturing team to ensure design intent translates cleanly into high-quality fabricated solutions, engaging directly with the production floor at every stage.

• Support prototype builds, first-off reviews, and quality checks through the full production lifecycle.

• Collaborate with Godin’s multi-disciplinary studio, account teams, and domestic and offshore suppliers on briefs ranging from in-store campaigns to event builds.

• Participate in site visits, surveys, and installations as required, with a grounded understanding of how your designs need to perform in the field.

• Prepare accurate BOMs (bills of materials), assembly instructions, and installation guides for consistent execution across production runs.

• Research materials, hardware, fabrication methods, and sustainable alternatives, contributing to Godin’s position at the leading edge of retail fabrication.

• Stay current on retail display trends, fabrication innovations, and category developments, bringing new thinking proactively to client and internal conversations.

• Bring working knowledge of corrugated and structural design, supporting the structural team on POP display and temporary signage programs when project load calls for it.

Qualifications: Education: College diploma or university degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of formal training and hands-on experience.

Core Professional Competencies: • 10+ years of experience in industrial design, retail design, signage, fixtures, or fabrication-based environments, with a portfolio of work that has gone from concept to production to installation.

• Demonstrated experience managing the full product lifecycle — from concept and material sourcing through manufacturing, logistics, and on-site installation — and adapting confidently to evolving client specifications throughout.

• SolidWorks experience required. Familiarity with additional CAD tools (i.e. AutoCAD) and rendering software (i.e. 3ds Max, Blender, or equivalent) is an asset. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite required. ArtiosCAD proficiency to aid our Structural Design Team is a huge asset for this role.

• Strong understanding of materials, hardware, and manufacturing processes, including metal, acrylic, wood composites, laminates, and specialty substrates, and how each behaves through fabrication and in the field.

• Knowledge of 3D printing workflows and PDM (Product Data Management) environments is an asset.

• Experience with corrugated and structural design, including BOM production and physical mock-up or prototype development in a retail display or POP context, is a significant asset.

• Experience with CNC, routing, bending and folding, lighting elements, and display hardware systems is a strong advantage.

• A portfolio that demonstrates executional range — from early concept sketches through to final production drawings — and shows real work that exists in the world. • Solid understanding of the Canadian retail environment and how permanent and semi-permanent displays need to perform across grocery, mass, club, drug, and C&G, and specialty retail channels.

• Strong project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

• A “can do”, roll-up-your-sleeves approach. You’re comfortable working across design, production, and installation teams, and you take pride in work that performs as well as it looks.

Leadership & Communication Skills: • Excellent communication and collaboration skills — you can explain a structural constraint to a client and a fabrication detail to an account team with equal clarity.

• Comfortable presenting work to senior client stakeholders, with the confidence to defend design decisions and the openness to incorporate feedback constructively.

• A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work fluidly across creative, production, and account functions.

• Experience mentoring junior or intermediate designers is an asset as Godin continues to grow its team.

Remuneration: $100,000 - $115,000 for a full-time role depending on candidate’s work and management experience, plus benefits.

Other: This role is an on-site position (5 days/week) at our facility in Toronto (Don Valley Parkway & Eglinton area).
