The Opportunity

Your Impact Starts Here – Are you ready to play a leading role in delivering land development and municipal engineering projects across southern Alberta?

WSP is seeking a strategic, client-focused Senior Project Manager – Team Lead to lead and grow a team of design and field professionals.  This high-impact leadership role is accountable for people leadership, team development, and workload planning, while also leading complex, high-visibility projects.  The successful candidate will set technical direction, mentor and develop staff, and play an active role in expanding WSP’s service offering across the region.

In this role, you will bring expertise in civil engineering project management, with a focus on land development and municipal infrastructure. Experience may include subdivision development, drainage systems, utility networks, transportation design, and infrastructural renewal.  You will lead projects through the full life cycle – from proposal and approvals to construction, warranty and final completion.

You will leverage strong leadership and collaboration skills to guide multidisciplinary teams and build trusted client relationships.  A solid understanding of the southern Alberta landscape will enable you to support clients in navigating complex regulator processes and stakeholder expectations.

Your Impact

  • Provide leadership, direction, and accountability for a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, technologists, and subconsultants, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient project delivery.
  • Lead the delivery of land development and municipal engineering projects that strengthen communities and enhance infrastructure resilience across southern Alberta.
  • Manage the full project lifecycle—from proposal and concept design through construction, warranty, and final acceptance—for residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use developments, as well as roadway and municipal reserve works.
  • Lead and develop the team by setting clear expectations, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, and supporting ongoing technical and professional growth.
  • Plan, prioritize, and balance team workload and resources to align with project demands, optimize utilization, and support delivery commitments.
  • Mentor and coach team members, providing guidance in technical execution, project coordination, and client service while supporting career development and progression.
  • Supervise field staff and provide guidance to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant execution of field activities.
  • Serve as a senior client advisor and primary point of contact for developers, municipalities, and agencies, building strong, trusted relationships through proactive communication and practical solutions.
  • Guide and review approval submissions, including engineering drawings, technical reports, servicing briefs, planning applications, and environmental documentation.
  • Lead project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, and contract administration, while overseeing procurement and coordination of subconsultants and contractors.
  • Provide leadership during construction, supporting RFIs, shop drawing reviews, progress certifications, field reviews, and resolving complex site challenges.
  • Support talent development through coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Champion health, safety, and environmental stewardship across all projects and team activities.
  • Drive business development initiatives, including proposals, fee strategies, client presentations, and expanding service delivery capabilities in the region.
  • Build and sustain relationships with key industry stakeholders while maintaining awareness of market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging best practices.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline; Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta (or eligibility).

  • 10+ years of progressive land development and municipal infrastructure design and project management experience, ideally within Alberta.

  • Solid project management experience with the ability to manage budgets, timelines, and client expectations. Project Management Institute PMP certification is an asset.

  • Demonstrated experience serving as a team lead, practice lead, or functional lead within an environmental, engineering, or consulting organization.

  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and navigate local planning and approval processes.

  • Proven understanding of the land development process, municipal standards, permitting processes, servicing strategies, and grading design best practices.

  • Strong understanding of field operations, construction practices, and municipal standards.

  • Familiarity with Alberta Environmental standards and guidelines.

  • Proficiency in civil design tools such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, modelling software, and project coordination platforms

  • Creative problem-solver with strong judgment, organizational skills, and the ability to navigate competing priorities with confidence.

  • A collaborative mindset and passion for creating solutions that matter to communities.

  • Ability to balance technical excellence with strategic thinking and business development focus.

  • Valid driver’s license and readiness to engage with municipalities across southern Alberta.
