Job Description:
The Mechanical Design Team Manager will oversee engineering project from concept through to completion and is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and delivery of mechanical design initiatives. This includes ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet all technical, quality, and performance requirements. Following the transition of projects from the sales team, the Manager will take ownership of defining design scope, objectives, and resource allocation to support successful execution.

This role requires strong coordination and leadership capabilities to guide engineering teams, manage priorities, and maintain alignment across cross-funtional departments. The ideal candidate will foster collaboration, drive accountability, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, design solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Mechanical Designers to achieve high performance and professional growth.
- Assign and manage workload, ensuring effective resource allocation across projects.
- Establish and maintain design standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and support career development for team members.
- Oversee the development of detailed 2D/3D mechanical layouts, models, and drawings
- Review and approve working drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials created in SolidWorks.
- Ensure designs meet performance requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and quality standards.
- Guide concept development, design calculations, and material selection.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, machine safety requirements, and company processes.
- Manage multiple automation projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and deliverables are met.
- Coordinate with engineering, controls, manufacturing, and purchasing teams.
- Support project planning, scheduling, and risk assessment activities.
- Monitor project progress and proactively resolve technical and resource challenges.
- Engage with customers to ensure design intent aligns with requirements.
- Provide advanced technical input and problem-solving for complex mechanical challenges.
- Support fabrication, assembly, installation, commissioning, and testing.
- Investigate equipment failures and implement corrective solutions.
- Introduce design improvements to enhance manufacturability and efficiency.
- Participate in simulations, testing, and design validation activities.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of design documentation, including:
- Specifications, manuals, and operating instructions
- Drawing registers and revision control
- Project documentation and reports
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.
- Maintain organized and accurate project records
- Communicates professionally and effectively with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
- Follow all BCCI policies and adhere to our health and safety protocols and procedures.
- Is available to work overtime and travel globally.
- Completes general and other assigned tasks.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design or Equivalent Specialized Experience
- 5 years of mechanical design experience in the manufacturing environment
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
- Proven track record managing complex engineering or automation projects
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong proficiency with SolidWorks.
- Advanced understanding of:

- Fabrication and machining processes
- Mechanical component design
- Experience withhydraulics, pneumatic, and machine safety standards.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and implement effective solutions, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrates strong accountability and dependability in meeting commitments and deadlines.
- Ability to use technology, resources, and time in an efficient matter.
- Must be able to lift 50+lbs and carry 40+lbs.
- Strong verbal and written communication with customers and suppliers.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety protocols and procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Knowledge of ERP computer systems is an asset (Zoho preferred).
- Standard First Aid/CPR-C (asset).
