Job Summary
The Manager, Web & Digital Platform Transformation is responsible for leading the strategic modernization, governance, and performance of the College’s enterprise web platform, with mohawkcollege.ca serving as the primary digital channel. The role leads the transformation of the College’s web ecosystem into a secure, scalable, integrated, and engagement driven digital platform that supports recruitment, student engagement, service delivery, and institutional priorities.
The incumbent is accountable for the planning and execution of multi year digital platform transformation initiatives, including website redesign and information architecture overhaul, implementation of modern content management and API based architectures, and integration with College systems in partnership with Information Technology. The role balances innovation and long term platform sustainability with the operational demands of maintaining and optimizing the current website during periods of change.
The Manager establishes enterprise standards for digital experience, analytics, accessibility, security, and governance in a federated content model, ensuring compliance with legislative, institutional, and risk management requirements. Through leadership of a unionized web team and oversight of external vendors and partners, the role delivers measurable improvements in content effectiveness, user engagement, and digital performance while managing technical debt and platform lifecycle risks.
The position requires the exercise of significant judgement to align diverse stakeholders, manage complex vendor relationships, guide cross functional change, and make data informed decisions with broad institutional impact.
What you’ll be doing:
Lead Digital Platform Transformation and Future State Strategy
- Leads the strategy, planning, and execution of a multi year transformation of the College’s enterprise web platform, with mohawkcollege.ca as the primary institutional digital channel.
- Defines and oversees the future state web architecture, including modernization of content management systems, information architecture, and API based integration models in partnership with Information Technology.
- Develops and manages phased transformation roadmaps that balance innovation, security, performance, and long term maintainability while ensuring continuity of service for the existing website.
- Identifies, prioritizes, and mitigates platform risks related to security, privacy, scalability, accessibility, and integration, exercising judgement where trade offs between institutional risk, cost, and user experience are required.
- Leads platform lifecycle management, including assessment and remediation of technical debt, legacy dependencies, and system obsolescence.
Establish Digital Experience, Analytics, and Performance Accountability
- Establishes enterprise frameworks for digital performance measurement, including content effectiveness, user engagement, conversion, task completion, and overall digital experience outcomes.
- Leads the development and use of analytics, experimentation, and testing strategies to inform platform design, content strategy, and prioritization of enhancements.
- Interprets complex data sets from multiple sources to inform recommendations and decisions with institutional level implications.
- Partners with Marketing, Recruitment, and other stakeholders to ensure digital performance insights align with College objectives and are translated into actionable platform and content improvements.
- Accountable for driving measurable improvements in digital engagement and effectiveness through data informed decision making.
Lead Change Management and Operational Continuity in a Unionized Environment
- Provides leadership to a unionized web team through periods of significant organizational and technological change, including the parallel operation of legacy platforms and development of new digital environments.
- Plans and manages workload, roles, skill development, and sequencing of work to support transformation initiatives while maintaining stable day to day web operations.
- Leads change implementation activities to support adoption of new tools, platforms, standards, and ways of working, addressing resistance and operational risk where required.
- Ensures consistent compliance with collective agreements, College policies, and established procedures while driving transformation outcomes.
Provide Enterprise Governance in a Federated Web Content Model
- Designs, implements, and enforces governance frameworks for web platforms and content across a decentralized network of content owners and editors throughout the College.
- Establishes standards and policies related to accessibility, brand, security, data protection, and digital experience quality within a federated environment.
- Resolves competing stakeholder priorities and escalates risks where decentralized practices may impact institutional performance, compliance, or reputation.
- Oversees CMS access models, permissions, and training to ensure governance standards are consistently applied.
Lead Vendor, Partner, and Financial Management for Digital Platforms
- Leads relationships with external design agencies, systems integrators, technical vendors, and consultants supporting digital platform development and optimization.
- Oversees vendor selection, contracting, performance management, and delivery accountability for complex digital initiatives.
- Manages budgets related to platforms, vendors, tools, and services, exercising judgement in resource allocation aligned to transformation priorities.
- Acts as the College’s primary product and platform representative in engagements with external partners.
Partner with Information Technology and Support Enterprise Integration Readiness
- Serves as the primary interface between digital/marketing stakeholders and Information Technology for web platform architecture, hosting, security, and integrations.
- Collaborates with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, and Portfolio Management teams to ensure alignment between digital platforms and enterprise systems.
- Contributes to planning and readiness activities for future enterprise system integrations, including ERP related API development and data exchange models.
- Translates business, user, and platform requirements into technical considerations in collaboration with IT partners.
Other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- A four year post secondary degree in digital media, information systems, computer science, web development, marketing, communications, business administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and extensive progressive experience.
- Minimum of nine years of progressively responsible experience in digital platforms, web strategy, or technology enabled services, including experience leading complex initiatives involving platform modernization, systems integration, analytics driven performance improvement, and governance. Experience must include people leadership, vendor management, budget accountability, and leading change in a complex or unionized environment.
- Experience in post secondary education or the public sector is an asset.
- This position leads multi year digital platform transformation initiatives and balances future state development with ongoing operational responsibility. While strong technical knowledge is required, the role emphasizes leadership, governance, and decision making rather than hands on technical execution. As digital platforms and enterprise systems evolve, the focus of the role may adapt; however, accountability for digital platform leadership and performance remains core.
- Advanced understanding of digital platform architectures, including headless CMS and API based integrations; strong analytical and data informed decision-making skills; experience working collaboratively with enterprise IT functions; knowledge of accessibility, privacy, and security principles embedded in platform design; and demonstrated ability to lead digital change initiatives in complex organizational environments.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
What we offer:
- Progressive vacation plan starting with 22 vacation days per year plus holiday closure.
- Defined Benefit pension plan (CAAT) with contributions matched by Mohawk College.
- 93% top up of maternity and parental leave pay for 52 weeks.
- Annual employee performance incentive program.
