About this Opportunity
This is an opportunity to provide leadership at the heart of teacher education, supporting high‑quality programs that prepare future educators to meet the evolving needs of schools and communities.
The Manager, Teacher Education plays a pivotal role in the delivery and continuous improvement of the university’s elementary and secondary teacher education programs. Working collaboratively with the Department Chair, Director, Administrative Officers, Program Coordinators, and Education Advising, the Manager provides oversight to ensure programs are effective, responsive, and aligned with institutional priorities and professional standards.
The position oversees all aspects of program planning, implementation, evaluation, and review, and works closely with faculty, instructors, and staff to support program quality and coherence. A key focus of the role is supporting teacher candidates throughout their programs, including coordinated responses for candidates who may be at academic or professional risk, in accordance with university and departmental policies.
The Manager, Teacher Education also serves as an important liaison with internal and external partners. This includes working with school districts, public and independent schools, and local and provincial partners, as well as consulting with the Teacher Regulation Branch, BCTC, and other certification bodies to ensure certification requirements are met. The role collaborates broadly across the Faculty of Education and the university, including with various student support units.
In addition, the Manager supervises PEA and CUPE staff within Teacher Education, manages designated program budgets, and supports the effective use of resources to advance program goals and initiatives.
The salary range for this position is:
- Recruitment range: $79,376- $87,518 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
- Performance range: $103,243 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
Mandate:
The Manager, Teacher Education is responsible for and works cooperatively and collaboratively with the Department Chair, Administrative Officer, Program Coordinators, Education Advising to effectively manage, maintain, implement, and monitor all aspects of the teacher education programs.
The Manager works directly with school and district officials concerning the teacher education programs; and consults with the Teacher Regulation Branch in BC and other provincial certifying bodies to ensure that requirements for teacher candidates’ certification are fulfilled.
Objectives:
- Program Management (Oversee all aspects of teacher education programs; Ensure program quality and effectiveness; Implement monitoring and evaluation systems)
- Stakeholder Management (Coordinate with internal teams (Chair, Officers, Coordinators); Maintain relationships with schools and district officials; Liaise with Teacher Regulation Branch and certification bodies)
- Compliance & Standards (Ensure programs meet certification requirements; Monitor teacher candidate certification process; Maintain quality standards across all programs)
- Student Support & Administration (Support teacher candidates through certification; Coordinate with Education Advising; Manage program-related documentation and processes)
Job Requirements
This position requires a Master’s Degree and at least 5 years of experience. Experience must include:
- Teaching experience in K to 12;
- Familiarity with the public education in British Columbia and knowledge of the professional standards and requirements of the British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch and the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation;
- Supervision and mentoring in professional contexts;
Equivalent combinations of training, education and/or experience may be considered. Preference will be given to experience working in a related program with teacher candidates.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- Effective human relations skills and an ability to interact positively and productively with faculty, staff, students and school personnel;
- Strong organizational abilities, including the ability to work with minimal supervision;
- Strong communication skills;
- Computer skills necessary for database management (i.e., MS Work, and MS Excel); and,
- Flexibility and willingness to accept reasonable variation in the nature and balance of responsibilities and tasks necessitated by the season cycle of work, staff changes and other factors.
