Construction Project Manager
About the role
Our client, a leading Canadian construction company specializing in heavy civil infrastructure, bridge rehabilitation, concrete structures, parking garages, waterproofing, and specialty concrete services, is seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to join their growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a results-driven construction professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a strong background in managing heavy civil construction projects from planning through completion. The successful candidate will oversee multiple phases of construction, collaborate with clients and project stakeholders, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. This position requires travel to project sites throughout the Western Region.
Key Responsibilities Manage construction projects from pre-construction planning through project completion. Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, and tender documents to ensure project requirements are fully understood. Develop, maintain, and update project schedules while monitoring milestones and deliverables. Coordinate with Superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution. Monitor project budgets, costs, productivity, and profitability through regular cost tracking and reporting. Prepare and manage change orders, purchase orders, progress claims, and subcontract documentation. Conduct project planning meetings and oversee weekly progress reviews. Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services. Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, schedules, project photos, and contract records. Foster strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and vendors. Support contract administration, negotiations, and vendor management activities. Promote and enforce all company Health & Safety policies, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and site-specific safety requirements. Participate in estimating activities by reviewing drawings, specifications, and project documentation as needed.
Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience managing heavy civil construction projects, preferably involving bridge rehabilitation, bridge replacement, or concrete infrastructure. Experience overseeing construction projects valued at $1 million or more. Strong understanding of construction contracts, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and risk management. Experience working with subcontractors, self-performed work, and contract administration. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with HeavyBid (HCSS) or similar construction management software is considered a strong asset. Familiarity with online tendering and procurement platforms. Excellent leadership, delegation, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Willingness to travel and work at various project sites. Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Project Management training or certification is considered an asset. Valid WHMIS GHS, Fall Protection, and First Aid certifications are considered assets.
