About the role
Job Summary Reporting to the Discipline Lead - Project Management, the Project Manager (PM) leads and coordinates projects spanning electrical field service work, engineered solutions and electrical engineering service projects which vary in scope and size. This role collaborates very closely with technical resources including engineers, designers, technicians and electricians as well as business development colleagues to prepare robust project plans, budgets and schedules. The PM is responsible for planning, executing and closing projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical solutions that meet client needs. Project Managers play a critical role in risk management/escalation, decision-making, ensuring compliance and regular reporting / documentation required to monitor and maintain a successful project through to completion. The Project Manager is also accountable to develop tools, resources and templates as well as provide guidance to technical resources who are engaging in project management related tasks particularly on small to mid-size projects. Education Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marine Engineering, Business Administration or a related field OR a post-secondary diploma in Business, Technology or a related field in combination with industry experience is required Project Management Professional (PMP) designation complete or in progress is an asset. Knowledge, Skills & Experience 5 years of project management related experience 2 years of industry related experience within marine, construction or industrial industries Experience leading and managing full life cycle EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) projects ensuring scope, schedule and budget alignment from design through commissioning and handover Experience working with technical documents, drawings, and submittal packages within a multi-disciplinary environment Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills Knowledge of change management principles including identifying significant variations, claims identification, quantification and evaluation Proficiency in MS 365 (particularly Excel) and project scheduling software (such as MS Project, Primavera P6 or an equivalent ERP) Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task and escalate issues when appropriate Skilled in time and budget management with an unwavering commitment to quality service delivery Responsibilities Lead and manage the required work to vet new, develop and execute robust project plans leveraging our project ERP for the delivery of project work spanning the Company’s lines of business. Collaborate with business development colleagues and the Manager, Commercial Operations as projects commence to review and vet pricing, ensure healthy margins, accept proposed timelines and validate scope of work Manage the conversion of successful quotations into well-structured project plans within the ERP Develop and maintain project schedules including labour type, time and materials Prepare project plans which include a risk management plan, sourcing strategy, schedule, quality plan and other deliverables as required Produce necessary project documentation including a Project Charter, Project Budget, Risk Register and Stakeholder Register Regularly monitor and report on project status, mitigating risks and acting as a communication lead with the client and internal stakeholders. Monitor and report both internally and externally on the status of projects against planned milestones and generate billing requests to Accounts Receivable as they are achieved Provide project leadership by working closely with internal colleagues, clients and vendors to monitor and accomplish project goals / deliverables on time and to budget Provide a single point of accountability for project deliverables and the associated quality Manages day-to-day client interaction, coordinate manufacturing and sub-supplier efforts Hold regular status meetings with technical resources and Discipline Leads to share information and updates and to gather data and insights Develop and distribute regular project reporting to Discipline Lead – Project Management and key stakeholders including required KPIs Track lessons learned and share as appropriate with key stakeholders Liaise with Discipline Leads, technical resources and field services staff on small to mid-size projects, providing guidance, support, resources and templates for the successful execution of their project-related tasks. Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary teams including Discipline Leads, technical resources and field service resources in support of project management related tasks specifically on small to mid-size projects including with required project leadership, decision-making, planning & scheduling, ensuring technical compliance & standards, risk management and mitigation strategies, status reporting and lessons learned Oversee project execution, including subcontractor management, site mobilization, HSE compliance, quality assurance, and progress tracking against established milestones Develop and maintain standard operating procedures related to best practices in project management Develop and maintain templates, tools and processes Develop and maintain quality control and assurance procedures for related services and deliverables Provide guidance and direction to staff aligned to developed standards and procedures; identify opportunities for continuous quality improvement; liaise with the Quality Specialist for appropriate documentation management Contribute to the Company’s growth and business development through acting as a resource in the creation of winning technical proposals and bids. Collaborate with members of the business development team to build and maintain relationships with new and existing clients as required; participate in understanding technical requirements and provide any guidance or support with respect to managing the proposed projects Assist in the preparation of technical proposals, bids and RFP responses in collaboration with internal colleagues Represent Canal at industry conferences, trade shows and networking events as required to promote brand visibility and generate leads Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required. Special Requirements A valid driver’s license is required Some travel across North America may be required to Canal offices, client sites including shipyards and industry events Canal Marine and Industrial Inc. employees strive to enable the strategic priorities of the organization through completion of their work. Due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate may be required to obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance and/or registration under the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
