What You’ll Do
As a working Supervisor and under the general supervision of the Director, Capital Works and within established policies, procedures and guidelines the Coordinator, Maintenance and Projects will supervise, organize, schedule and coordinate the assignment of engineering departmental staff members and contractors for the effective and efficient completion of day-to-day facility maintenance, operational, and project coordination activities on all NPC buildings.
The Coordinator, Maintenance and Projects****will:

Prepare capital equipment lists for the Senior Manager’s or Director’s approval.

Assist the Senior Director with the development of both the capital and equipment Facility Maintenance budget and in preparing work and equipment specifications for tendering and/or request for proposals/quotations.

Record, review and control; productivity, labour costs, schedule staff, authorize overtime, calculating project and material costs etc., requisitions and orders materials and supplies upon approval.

Plan, coordinate and schedule all resources necessary to carry out the operational functions related to facility infrastructure repair and maintenance activities.

Supervise, manage and oversee the work carried out by Facility Maintenance crews and contractors to ensure it is performed effectively and efficiently and in accordance with the NPC maintenance standards, levels of service, specifications, policies, procedures and in accordance with other legislated requirements (e.g. labour relations, safety regulations, etc.).

Ensure a high level of staff performance through participation in the selection process, staff development and motivation.

Train and instruct new and existing workers to perform job functions in a safe manner, and in the proper use of tools and equipment.

Review employee performance on a regular basis and takes corrective/ disciplinary actions as required in consultation with Senior Manager and Human Resources Department.

Prepare workplace accident/incident reports and follow up investigations. Assist in recommending, creating and implementing safe workplace action plans for improvements.

Prepare recommendations (cost/benefit) to purchase new equipment or tools versus costs associated with maintenance and repair to existing vehicles and equipment.

Provide recommendations with respect to NPC building construction, renovation projects and energy efficiency opportunities.

Liaise with consultants, contractors and the Facility Maintenance Coordinator on the status and requirements of various projects to ensure N.P.C. standards are met.

Respond to, investigate and follow up inquiries/requests for service/complaints from the general public, parkway and service road residents, emergency services, other departments, and senior management.

Progress of construction work to ensure compliance with NPC standards/policies and procedures.

Reviews contractor, consultant and supplier invoices for accuracy and participates in negotiations with the contractor/subcontractor regarding extra/credits/change orders to contracts and claims.

Works in close consultation with maintenance and project management(s) team to assist and ensure successful, timely and cost-effective project outcomes.

Ensures the project outcomes satisfies the required needs through stakeholder consultations, identifying relevant quality standards, and ensuring a system of quality control and monitoring is established and utilized.

Liaises and co-ordinates with NPC Health, Safety and Environment office to ensure contractors are aware of and adhere to the NPC’s policies and procedures and adherence to legislated safety requirements.
Performs other related duties.
- Attend regular NPC departmental and interdepartmental meeting.
- May be requested to fill in, cover off or provide backup/relief supervision for other departmental supervisors as assigned or scheduled.
- Responsibilities of this position will frequently require additional duties/hours beyond normal working hours, particularly during emergencies, winter operations and NPC special events.
- May be required to represent management on the of the joint health and safety committee
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
- Community College Diploma or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- A minimum of one Ministry of Colleges and Universities Certificate of Qualifications from the Construction Sector of trades (from a compulsory trade) is required.
- 5 years of related experience in a management capacity coupled with 2 years on the job.
- Previous supervisory, leadership and project coordination experience including planning, coordinating, organizing and delegating work of internal staff and external contractors.
- Experience with building, plumbing, electrical and gas codes and detailed knowledge of electrical, heating, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, welding and fabrication trades with respect to operational, maintenance and construction practices and procedures.
- Familiarity with buildings and building systems required.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
- A valid Class "G" driver’s license.
- Ability to operate basic computer software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and to conduct research using the internet.
- Analytical skills, strong organizational and coordination skills related to operational activities.
- Excellent administrative, analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve issues effectively.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and team building skills.
- Ability to deal with staff, visitors, public with tact, diplomacy and courtesy.
- Excellent project coordination, organizational, multi-tasking, work prioritization skills.
