Northern Strands Group of Companies is growing, and we're on the lookout for an enthusiastic and detail-driven Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Coordinator, whose primary responsibilities are assisting with the development, implementation, and administration of HSE Programs across the Group of Companies. Northern Strands is a proud Saskatchewan-based company known for our innovation, integrity, and deep ties to the communities we serve.

This position will require regular, successful completion of pre-access drug and alcohol tests to access client sites.

What You’ll Be Doing

Assist with the development, implementation, and administration of HSE programs across the Northern Strands Group of Companies including policy development, orientation, and employee training Provide HSE statistics for review by management and external entities such as clients, auditors, and inspectors Monitor and audit HSE program elements for compliance with regulations, contractual requirements, industry best practices, and certifications including but not limited to ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, and COR Update information on compliance sites such as ISNet and WCB; completing Review and Verification Services (RAVS) on ISNet; acknowledging notifications and completing questionnaires supplied by customers, etc. Work with HSE Manager to schedule audits, compile audit reports, complete internal compliance audits, and assist external auditors during external audits Assist HSE Manager to develop, review, and/or revise HSE policies and other HSE program documentation Schedule employees for drug and alcohol tests and communicate appointment times and locations to them Review health and safety statistics, identify trends, recommend corrective actions, and track both leading and lagging indicators Assist with incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are documented and completed Identify opportunities and recommend initiatives for continuous improvement in the HSE program Support, assist, and coach on H&S matters; be visible and available Attend and advise at both the Occupational Health and Safety Committee and Environmental Committee meetings Issue company or department-wide communications regarding HSE concerns as required Visit work sites and collaborate with managers, supervisors, and site safety coordinators on HSE matters Assist project managers and site supervisors in the development and review of safe work plans for specific jobs Assist in the preparation of Client/Vendor Safety pre-qualification questionnaires Assist with the administration of the employee Return-to-Work program Assist with the development and delivery of Health & Safety Training Programs and the maintenance of training records for both employees and external clientele Coordination and scheduling of training for employees; provide training as required Coordination and scheduling of training including respirator fit testing and all aspects of industrial hygiene testing Develop and lead monthly safety meetings Ongoing management of external training: scheduling, follow-up calls or emails, invoicing, calendar management, as well as quoting and sales projections Lead by example, speak up, and set a high standard for safety in the workplace Maintain confidentiality as it pertains to employee personal information

What You Bring To The Table

Minimum of 1-3 years directly related experience in Occupational Health & Safety Current and working knowledge of The Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020 and The Mines Regulations, 2018 Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) is required Auditor experience / credentials within ISO, COR or relevant areas would be an asset Prior trade or work experience would be considered an asset Industrial hygiene training such as respirator or hearing protection fit testing, ergonomic assessment training, or sound level monitoring training would be an asset Possession of a recognized Safety designation is considered an asset (i.e., OH&S Certificate, NCSO, CRSP) Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent Strong organizational skills with attention to detail Strong time-management skills Strong interpersonal skills Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing Ability to handle competing priorities simultaneously; work well under pressure with time-sensitive deadlines Valid driver’s license Strong problem identification and resolution skills Ability to use judgment and apply discretion when making decisions Ability to understand and follow instructions Ability to work independently and in a team environment Possess a positive and professional attitude, set a high standard, and convey professionalism at all times Any valid safety-related training certificates would be considered an asset (i.e., WHMIS, forklift, fall protection, etc.) Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
