Purpose of the Role

Provide leadership and oversight for the daily operation, maintenance, and compliance of Lakeshore’s Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Subsystems. Serve as the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO), ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of drinking water and wastewater services that protect public health and the environment. Support the long-term sustainability of municipal infrastructure through asset management, lifecycle planning, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership: Provide day-to-day leadership of Lakeshore’s Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection operations, oversee maintenance activities, establish priorities, direct contractors, and provide technical guidance during operational and emergency situations.

Risk Management: Maintain compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario regulations, and municipal policies.

Infrastructure Planning: Support lifecycle management of critical infrastructure assets through preventative maintenance programs, procurement activities, contractor oversight, long-term asset planning, and infrastructure renewal initiatives.

People Leadership: Lead and develop a team of Distribution & Collection Operators and a Lead Hand by promoting accountability, engagement, professional development, workplace safety, and continuous learning.

What you bring:

Three-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline. Minimum three to five years of supervisory experience within a water, wastewater, municipal, or related infrastructure environment. Current Ontario Class 3 Water Distribution and Class 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certificates. Experience supporting regulatory compliance, emergency response, infrastructure maintenance, and operational planning. Knowledge of DWQMS and Ontario’s municipal water and wastewater regulatory environment. Experience in a unionized municipal environment is considered an asset. Familiarity with SCADA, Historian systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
