Position Summary
Centennial College is seeking a skilled and experienced Scrum Leader to join its Enterprise Systems team in the IT Services Department. Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Systems, the IT Scrum Leader is responsible for the coordination and management of complex projects through all phases including initiation, planning, execution and closing. The Scrum Leader is also responsible for accomplishing the Sprint objectives and maintaining the progress, mutual interaction and tasks of various parties in a way that reduces the risk of overall failure maximizes benefits, and minimizes costs.

The position will be dedicated to multiple Sprint teams, which include both internal and external IT projects, as well as strategic and operational projects and initiatives. They will be considered a subject-matter expert, have excellent logic and problem-solving skills and a drive to make a difference. They will be responsible for enforcing the rules of Scrum, removing impediments from their teams while promoting self-management and constantly improving our standards of work.

The Scrum Leader will be facilitating all necessary consultations, determining priorities for implementation, negotiating alignment of IT technical resources and processes, and establishing common policies and best practices to ensure the achievement of strategic goals related to the assigned project. The Scrum Leader will need to have experience with Agile project management, operations management and administrative capacity planning, along with excellent interpersonal communication and hands-on project management skills.

Responsibilities
Liaison & Communication

  • Serve as liaison between technical and non-technical departments.

  • Communicate with management, developers, product managers and technical support specialists on product issues.

Development

  • Organize and facilitate project planning, daily stand-up meetings, reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, demos and other Scrum-related meetings.

  • Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress.

  • Maintain process documentation.

  • Ensure the development teams are practicing the core agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, team accountability, and visibility.

  • Provides sprint management, operational, and administrative support to the DevOps team, IT Infrastructure team, sponsor, and Enterprise Systems program manager.

  • Focuses on specific deliverables, parts of projects, and/or sub-projects with scheduling, organizing, data gathering, progress updating, recordkeeping, and reporting.

  • Organizes workshops, documents and keeps processes up to date during the Sprint duration

  • Develops Sprint scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring feasibility,

  • Develops detailed sprint plans to track progress

  • Procurement management: Reviews contracts, identifies need, obtains appropriate approvals, publishes tender

Application Support

  • Assist as needed with backlog maintenance.

  • Assist with internal and external change management communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.

  • Assist with prioritization and resolution of defects/bugs.

Team Leadership

  • Participate proactively in developing and maintaining team standards, tools, and best practices.

  • Identify and remove impediments, and prevents distractions.

  • Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution.

  • Empower the team to self-organize.

  • Ensure the use of project management best practices, processes and procedures as developed by Centennial College’s Project Management Delivery Centre

Qualifications/Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Business Management, Agile Project Management, Computer Systems Design or Computer Science OR a combination of equivalent education and work experience (E.g., Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), PMP, CAPM etc.)

  • Seven (7) years of IT project management experience with a record of successful project completion (on time and within the stated budget) and more than one full life cycle (start-to-end) managing of a project

  • Five (5) years in a supervisory/lead capacity, including training team members

  • Experience influencing and gaining buy-in from executive sponsors, team members, stakeholders and peers

  • Able to handle both ambiguous and precise project requirements

  • Excellent organizational, communication, time management and leadership skills

  • Honed critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

  • Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite

  • Microsoft Project and Visio experience is an asset

  • Able to prioritize workload to meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills and a high level of confidentiality

  • Excellent presentation, interviewing, facilitating, and negotiating skills
