The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation is responsible for policies, legislation, regulations, programs and services that enable Alberta’s agriculture and food sectors to flourish and contribute to Alberta’s economic recovery and growth. Role Reporting to Assistant Deputy Minister, Trade, Investment and Food Safety (TIFS), the Executive Director, Food Safety, will provide strategic leadership and direction to a senior management team in developing and implementing provincial food safety and inspection policies, strategies and programs that help protect public health and maintain the integrity of the food safety system. Your portfolio includes inspection and regulatory oversight, surveillance and outreach, and agri-food laboratory services. Your leadership will inspire commitment to a shared vision that includes support for innovative processes and continuous improvement. Facilitating and advancing effective working relationships with other government provincial and federal departments and industry stakeholders will be critical as your team generates solutions to sensitive, complex food safety challenges. Qualifications Your background includes significant related senior management experience with strengths in leadership and relationship building. You have extensive regulatory, policy and program implementation and management experience and are recognized for delivering positive results with your teams and diverse stakeholder groups. A demonstrated ability to articulate and operationalize a vision, lead and manage through change and negotiate innovative solutions to complex and diverse issues will position you for success. An understanding of, and experience in, statutory decision-making roles and associated accountabilities within a government or regulatory environment is considered an asset. Strong communication skills and a record of building collaborative partnerships, ideally with agriculture and agri-food industries, groups and associations, is an asset. A degree in science, food science, agriculture, business, economics, or other related discipline is preferred. Salary $5,896.65 - $7,749.28 bi-weekly ($153,902.57 - $202,256.21 annually) Notes Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
