The Opportunity
We are looking for a Project Manager who is ready to take the next step in their career—developing their skills, taking on increasing responsibility, and growing into a Senior Project Manager role.
This position offers the opportunity to work on technical automation projects, while also contributing to internal initiatives that improve how we design, build, and deliver projects as an organization.
As part of our continued growth, Black Controls is adopting Agile project management practices, and this role will play a key part in applying and evolving these practices across both customer-facing and internal projects.

This role is designed for a Project Manager who wants to grow into a Senior Project Manager position.

Role Overview
The Project Manager is responsible for coordinating and driving the execution of both customer-facing automation projects and internal improvement initiatives.
Upon project hand-off from sales, you will support the definition of project scope, schedules, and resource plans—while taking on increasing ownership of execution, performance, and outcomes.
In addition to customer projects, you will contribute to internal projects focused on improving workflows, systems, and overall project delivery effectiveness, leveraging Agile principles to drive continuous improvement.
Accountability
Success in this role requires a high level of ownership and accountability.
The Project Manager is expected to plan, monitor, and take increasing ownership of project schedule and budget performance, proactively identifying risks, driving execution, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget, while continuously improving how projects are planned and executed through the application of Agile principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support all phases of projects including launch, planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management, with increasing ownership over time
- Develop and maintain project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation
- Drive coordination and execution across internal teams and external resources
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies
- Ensure clear and consistent communication with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
- Apply and support the adoption of Agile project management practices, contributing to iterative planning and continuous improvement
- Participate in and help drive internal projects and initiatives aimed at improving project delivery, tools, and processes
- Conduct quality control checks in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 standards
- Participate in post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and improve future execution
- Support a safe working environment by following all company health and safety policies
What Success Looks Like (6–12 Months)
- Strong understanding of project scope, budgets, and execution workflows
- Consistent tracking and communication of project progress, risks, and priorities
- Increased ownership of scheduling, coordination, and customer communication
- Contribution to projects being delivered on time and within budget
- Demonstrated growth in decision-making, problem-solving, and leadership capability
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3–5 years of project management experience in a manufacturing or automation environment
- Experience working on technical or engineering-based projects
- PMP or Scrum certification considered an asset
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong technical understanding, ideally within automation, controls, or engineering environments
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
- Strong communication skills with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
- Proven problem-solving and analytical capabilities
- High level of accountability and dependability in meeting commitments
- Experience with ERP systems (Zoho preferred)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel required)
- Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks is an asset
- Willingness to travel and support projects as required
