About the role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Scientific Director – Medical Communications based in Canada. This is a senior scientific leadership role at the intersection of strategy, medical content development, and client advisory within the pharmaceutical and biotech communications space. You will lead the scientific direction for complex, multi-account engagements, ensuring all deliverables are grounded in clinical accuracy, scientific integrity, and strategic relevance. The role involves close collaboration with client stakeholders to shape brand strategy, translate scientific data into meaningful medical narratives, and guide the development of high-impact educational and promotional materials. You will also play a key role in business growth by contributing to account expansion, strategic planning, and new opportunity development. This position requires both deep scientific expertise and strong client-facing leadership, with the ability to operate across multiple therapeutic areas and fast-moving timelines. Accountabilities: Lead the scientific direction across assigned client accounts, ensuring all medical communications deliverables are accurate, compliant, and strategically aligned. Oversee development of scientific content across multiple therapeutic areas, including advisory boards, speaker programs, slide decks, and other medical education materials. Serve as a senior scientific point of contact for clients, leading discussions on brand strategy, scientific positioning, and medical communication planning. Contribute to brand planning and business development by translating scientific insights into strategic opportunities and growth initiatives. Partner with client services teams to define scopes of work, timelines, and resource planning for complex, multi-account engagements. Ensure adherence to editorial standards, including AMA style and industry ethical guidelines, across all scientific deliverables. Manage scientific teams and resources across projects, ensuring quality, consistency, and timely execution under tight deadlines. Identify opportunities for account growth and expanded scientific engagement across existing and new client relationships. Requirements: Advanced degree in a scientific or medical discipline (required). 8+ years of experience in medical communications, medical affairs, publications, or promotional medical education within pharmaceutical or biotech environments. Strong experience developing scientific content such as advisory board materials, speaker programs, slide decks, and related deliverables. Proven ability to interpret complex clinical and scientific data and translate it into clear, accurate communication outputs. Strong client-facing experience with the ability to lead discussions, present scientific rationale, and influence strategic direction. Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with familiarity in editorial standards and scientific style guidelines (e.g., AMA). Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, remote, and deadline-driven environment. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across scientific, creative, and account teams.
