What can you expect from this position?

Reporting to the Associate Director, Facility Maintenance & Reliability, the Manager, Life Safety Systems provides oversight for the maintenance, performance, and lifecycle management of life safety assets across Toronto Pearson.

This includes fire alarm and fire protection systems across all GTAA-owned facilities. You will ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all regulatory requirements. The role requires leadership in planning and execution of maintenance programs, contract and budget management, and coordination across multiple stakeholders in a live airport environment.

As a Manager, Life Safety Systems, you will:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Lead preventative and corrective maintenance programs, ensuring optimal system performance.
  • Prioritize and manage competing maintenance activities, balancing operational risk, safety, and service continuity.
  • Oversee contracts, vendors, and service providers, ensuring performance and compliance with standards.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, forecasts, and long-term lifecycle plans.
  • Support capital planning through business cases and collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) during design reviews and asset handover for new builds and renovations.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, airlines, and government agencies to minimize operational disruption.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of technical specialists, fostering a safe and high-performing work environment.

This is the role for you, if you have:

  • 3+ years of facility or maintenance experience and 2+ years of people leadership (direct or indirect) experience, preference in a unionized environment.
  • Strong knowledge of life safety systems, building codes, fire codes, and health & safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, contracts, and vendor performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing demands and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of initiative, accountability, and decision-making capability.
  • Valid Ontario G class driver’s license.
  • Post-secondary education in mechanical systems, facilities management, or a related field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Transportation Security Clearance.
