About the role

POSITION SUMMARY 

Sub1313 Development a division of Canco Petroleum is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of petroleum, retail, commercial, car wash, and development projects throughout Canada. 

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for managing projects from initial concept through design, permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project closeout. This individual will provide leadership to project teams, oversee consultants and contractors, manage project budgets and schedules, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. 

The successful candidate will be a strategic leader capable of managing multiple complex projects while mentoring junior team members and contributing to the long-term growth of Sub1313 Development. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES PROJECT LEADERSHIP 

  • Lead multiple development and construction projects simultaneously. 
  • Develop and implement project execution strategies. 
  • Establish project objectives, schedules, budgets, and deliverables. 
  • Ensure alignment between client expectations and project requirements. 
  • Provide leadership and direction to project teams. 
  • Make critical project decisions and recommendations. 
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies. 

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT 

  • Develop and manage project budgets from concept through completion. 
  • Monitor project costs, forecasts, and financial performance. 
  • Review and approve project expenditures. 
  • Negotiate consultant, supplier, and contractor agreements. 
  • Evaluate change orders and cost impacts. 
  • Ensure profitability targets and project margins are achieved. 
  • Prepare financial reports and executive summaries. 

SCHEDULE MANAGEMENT 

  • Develop master project schedules. 
  • Monitor project progress and key milestones. 
  • Identify schedule risks and implement recovery plans. 
  • Coordinate resources to ensure project deadlines are met. 
  • Manage critical path activities. 
  • Report schedule performance to executive leadership. 

CONSULTANT & DESIGN MANAGEMENT 

  • Lead and coordinate architects, engineers, petroleum consultants, environmental consultants, signage consultants, and specialty consultants. 
  • Review design packages for constructability and cost efficiency. 
  • Oversee value engineering initiatives. 
  • Ensure consultant performance aligns with project objectives. 
  • Manage design budgets and schedules. 
  • Resolve technical and design-related issues. 

PROCUREMENT & CONTRACT MANAGEMENT 

  • Lead procurement planning and purchasing strategies. 
  • Review and negotiate contracts. 
  • Manage vendor and subcontractor relationships. 
  • Evaluate bids and tender submissions. 
  • Oversee contract administration and compliance. 
  • Resolve contractual disputes when necessary. 

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT 

  • Provide oversight of construction activities. 
  • Coordinate with site superintendents and field teams. 
  • Monitor quality control and safety compliance. 
  • Review project progress and site reports. 
  • Resolve field issues and project challenges. 
  • Ensure successful commissioning and turnover. 

PETROLEUM DIVISION LEADERSHIP 

  • Lead petroleum infrastructure projects, including: 
    • New fuel station developments. 
    •  Tank replacements and upgrades. 
    • Fuel system installations. 
    • Petroleum equipment upgrades. 
    • Car wash installations and expansions. 
    • Dealer improvement projects. 
  • Coordinate petroleum consultants, regulators, contractors, and equipment suppliers. 
  • Support strategic growth initiatives within the petroleum division. 

CLIENT & STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders. 
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships. 
  • Lead project meetings and presentations. 
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and communications. 
  • Provide executive-level reporting and updates. 

TEAM DEVELOPMENT 

  • Mentor Project Coordinators and Design Coordinators. 
  • Assist with recruitment and onboarding. 
  • Support staff development and training initiatives. 
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. 
  • Help establish and improve company project management processes. 

STRATEGIC PLANNING 

  • Participate in business planning and growth initiatives. 

  • Assist with project pipeline forecasting. 

  • Support operational improvements. 

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements. 

  • Contribute to the long-term vision and growth of Sub1313 Development. 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED 

  • Degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, or a related field. 
  • Minimum 8–15 years of progressive project management experience. 
  • Proven experience managing commercial, retail, petroleum, industrial, or development projects. 
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and contract administration.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams. 
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills. 
  • Strong financial and business acumen. 

PREFERRED 

  • Experience with petroleum and fuel system projects. 
  • Experience with retail and convenience store developments. 
  • PMP designation or equivalent project management certification. 
  • Experience with municipal approvals and development processes. 
  • Knowledge of Canadian construction markets.
