Job Summary
The primary focus of this position will be to provide project management for the Principal Investigator and multi-country research team. The research team focuses on a number of global health initiatives in newborn and child health coordinated centrally from the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics. The project manager will work with a multi-disciplinary team by leading various tasks including the drafting of various project operational and budget documents, standard operational procedures, grant and finance reporting and budgeting from multiple global health research and precision medicine projects.
Organizational Status
The co-ordinating centre is located in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics on-site at the Children and Women's Health Centre of British Columbia. The Project manager will support the with the activities of their multi-million dollar research portfolio.
The Project manager will be supervised by and report to the PI. The successful candidate will work with the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigators, and research staff on related studies, and other clerical and administrative staff members
Work Performed
The Project manager will be responsible for:

Manages and oversees the daily implementation, finances and operations of multi-country maternal and child global health projects and other related activities. These studies are administered through grants held at UBC with sub-agreements with study sites in Africa and beyond. The project manager will be responsible for monitoring the budget, monitoring inventory, and forecasting of financial reports for the internal research team and external study grants.

Develops operating procedures and makes recommendation on workflow improvements to ensure smooth operations of the day to day functioning of the research team

Demonstrate leadership in implementing multi-country (from Africa, to USA to Canada) operating and budgeting procedures

Monitor and oversee the progress of projects with moderate complexity including setting deadlines, resolving issues that arise, and ensuring stakeholder satisfaction

Ensure projects are completed on time, on scope and on budget

Troubleshoot complex problems inherent to administering and coordinating grants of multi-site global health projects

Writes various reports and supports the development of a press releases, presentations, and ethics and grant applications

Supervises and trains RA tech 3 level or below, and students supporting the above global health research studies

Develops the budget for multi-country research projects during the proposal stage in conjunction with investigators at UBC and in multiple other countries

Ensure compliance with institutional, ethical, and sponsor policies for global research projects.

Strengthen relationships with internal and external partners, including university collaborators, NGOs, and government agencies.

Support capacity building among trainees.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Project Manager and/or Principal Investigator will monitor the work of the incumbent. Errors or incorrect decisions could potentially result in delays in completing the project or seriously compromise the quality of the research. In addition, if established protocols related to privacy, confidentiality, and safety are not followed confidentiality about sensitive information related to patients' personal health and experiences could be breached
Supervision Received
The Project manager will work under minimum supervision, receiving specific instructions on unusual or complex problems, and exercising a considerable amount of autonomy, discretion, and initiative in determining work procedures and methods. This position will report to and be supervised by the Project Manager and the Principal Investigators of the project. They, in conjunction with the investigative team, will provide direction to the incumbent.
Supervision Given
This position will supervise a research assistants and trainees (RA Tech 3/work learn students) at a lower classification and have input into their performance evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Training in statistical methods and data analysis

Training and experience with software such as SPSS and Redcap experience

Web skills (e.g. social media) would be an asset.

Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
