Nature of the Work & Responsibilities
NATURE OF THE WORK:
Reporting to the Dean of the sector, the Associate Dean is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and daily activities of the sector. The Associate Dean manages and coordinates the administrative and technical personnel of the sector and works in close collaboration with the Dean to support the faculty and students of the programs of study of the sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports the Dean in determining the human and financial resources required for the operations of the sector under their responsibility and makes recommendations to support the strategic development of the sector;
- Provides support to the academic administration in the pursuit of the goals and objectives of the College’s Strategic Plan;
- Engages with students to discuss and investigate academic integrity incidents, grade review requests, program concerns and other difficulties;
- Engages, motivates and supports staff and faculty to ensure open communication, positive change and the highest levels of individual and team performance;
- Supports the activities of all employees (faculty, support staff, professionals) in the sector in the successful execution of their work plans and ensures that institutional processes, critical paths and deadlines are respected;
- Acts as a resource for new and current faculty in terms of college services, resources and pedagogy;
- Manages and understands internal procedures and financial processes, including the management of a complex budget;
- Develops, implements and adapts administrative processes to meet sector needs;
- Develops and coordinates activities across the sector and with other sectors to ensure efficient and consistent operations within the Sector and between other Sectors;
- Collaborates with appropriate College services on the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and activities in the sector;
- In collaboration with the Communications office, guides and supports programs in the marketing and communication initiatives of programs (Open House, brochures, communiques); assists with recruiting and retention initiatives;
- Operationalizes strategic initiatives and manages projects as assigned;
- Represents the sector and the College on internal and external committees as required;
- Implements and evaluates administrative and financial controls and processes, and ensures the efficient utilization of resources;
- Performs other related duties.
Qualifications & Conditions
QUALIFICATIONS:
Undergraduate degree in an appropriate specialization and six (6) years relevant experience, preferably including at least three (3) years post-secondary teaching experience.
A graduate degree in an appropriate specialization is an asset, as is management experience and experience/interest in Creative and Applied Arts.
