Department:Continuing Education and Corporate Training Campus: Barrie Classification: Support Staff Posting Date: June 29,2026 Salary Range: PB J: $43.61 (start rate) - $50.39 (4-year rate) Hours Per Week: 35 hours per week Status: Full-time Effective Date: 10 months from start date This is an initiatives / opportunities position. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement. Reporting to a Manager, Continuing Education and Corporate Training, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the technology labs, ensuring appropriate design, maintenance, repair, inventory control, and replacement of equipment and resources. The focus of the incumbent’s responsibilities for the labs and classroom spaces involved in the Base Borden Mechatronics project is to support all labs used in the project including hardware, software, and networking. The incumbent advises and assists Faculty and students through demonstration and orientation of technical information and processes, technical reports, and applied research, and the set-up and use of a variety of highly technical equipment. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: Technical support to the Labs/Classrooms involved in Base Borden Project: Research and integrate new software and systems. Troubleshoot, repair and maintain a wide range of lab equipment, including five industrial robots Design, research, fabricate and test new equipment as required. Locate and order parts, replacement stock, and new equipment. Lead project capital equipment purchases and lab layout, location of installation and service requirements. Ensure all lab safety standards are being followed (e.g. CSA approved and meets all legislative safety requirements). Set up and maintain automation, electronic, electrical and computer labs. Monitor and give technical support to students or part time staff as required. Support to Base Borden Mechatronics Program: Assist students with technical reports, applied research and in setting up and performing labs. Demonstrate and orient students to the operation of existing and new equipment and proper work procedures. Work closely with students on course related technical questions and assignments when faculty is not available. Design, develop, and deliver equipment demonstrations for labs and tour groups Orienting and demonstrating to new faculty the use and operation of labs, lab equipment and experiments Support program and department goals and attend required meetings. Assisting students with technical reports, applied research and in setting up and performing labs Demonstrating and orienting students to the operation of existing and new equipment and proper work procedures Working closely with students on course related technical questions and assignments when faculty is not available Designing, developing and delivering equipment demonstrations for labs and tour groups Orienting and demonstrating to new faculty the use and operation of labs, lab equipment and experiments Supporting program, and department goals, and attend required meetings Maintaining up-to-date inventory lists and budges related to lab resources Maintaining up-to-date inventory lists and budgets related to project resources. QUALIFICATIONS: Successfully completed a three-year Electrical Advanced Engineering Technology diploma and a valid Certificate of Qualification and a Certificate of Apprenticeship in a related skilled trade Five (5) years experience providing technical support in a shop setting where duties including maintaining technical equipment, providing technical support, and demonstrating and training others on the use of equipment Additional competencies related to additive manufacturing/rapid prototyping, instrumentation would be considered an asset Experience in an academic environment would be considered an asset Experience using CAD software would be considered an asset Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently and as a team member Proven project management experience. Demonstrating organizational planning, coordinating and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and respond to diverse and often conflicting demands Experience in automating systems, identifying safety issues, determining the control device specifications, control system design and manufacture, system installation, and maintenance Experience working with robotics, PLC’s, HMI’s, networks, and other various types of electrical equipment Demonstrated ability to master different types of equipment and technology without prior training Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations Computer skills and experience using the Solid Works/Inventor, MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the internet Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position by lifting to 44 lbs. of tools and equipment Proven analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills Experience in creating an inclusive, collaborative work environment Communication and interpersonal skills to provide clear concise information Georgian College supports diversity, equity and a workplace free from harassment and discrimination and is committed to an inclusive, barrier-free environment.
