Reporting to the Senior Director, Procurement and in partnership with a broader North America Sustainability team, the Sustainability Manager will lead data-driven food and packaging waste reduction & lean production initiatives throughout the Canadian operation.

The successful candidate will be accountable for our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting pillar for Canada. This involves the collection of inputs from across the business that contribute to the Annual Non-Financial Report for the HelloFresh Group, as well as regular updates to C-Level and an ESG Committee of the HelloFresh Group Board.

You will ensure compliance with the external reporting requirements and prepare company processes and capabilities to meet the needs of the upcoming CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive of the European Union applicable as of 2024) reporting regulation, and other emerging reporting requirements.

You will actively drive and shape the development of a more sustainable supply chain by supporting the design, quantification, and implementation of various projects impacting our community. This might include building sustainable waste management solutions (i.e. composting, recycling, anaerobic digestion), kit and case packaging modifications, partnership with local charities to utilize excess meals; or, changes to ingredient packaging.

  • Key contact and Project manager for Sustainability across HFCA.
  • Be the lead contact on sustainability; inspiring and leading the supply base and business to continually improve and celebrate success.
  • Ensure the HFCA customer trusts in our food. Give the conscientious consumer assurance in our sourcing practices; increasing NPS relating to Sustainability and Packaging etc.
  • Establish and maintain reporting on Sustainability practices for our Canadian business. This includes: determining the terms of reference; identifying data sources; establishing data capture where process does not exist; analyzing data & establishing key performance indicators; and, reporting on findings.
  • Own and drive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver the strategy.
  • Align with Global and North American HelloFresh teams on existing responsible sourcing targets and initiatives; facilitate development and roll out of high-impact initiatives in the Canadian market.
  • Identify areas for packaging reduction and recyclability.
  • Stay abreast of existing & pending regulation and climate goals (at the federal, provincial and municipal level); ensure our compliance in both reporting and adherence to guidelines.
  • Help us build and drive forward our sustainability roadmap, in partnership with Global and North American guidance.
  • Champion the Canadian team's understanding and enthusiasm for Sustainability; ensure adherence to best practices and knowledge sharing.
  • All other duties, as assigned

Sound a-peeling? Here's what we're looking for

  • Degree in business, engineering, supply chain management, or a sustainability-related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience (consulting, sustainability, operations) with experience driving sustainability-related projects and/or waste management and auditing preferred.
  • Exposure to a large operation, including distribution centers.
  • Attention to detail and process orientation.
  • Proficiency in computer applications / software (Google Sheets, Excel) complemented with exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments, while being able to prioritize, achieve objectives, and meet deadlines.
  • An ownership mindset and ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Proven team player, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in delivering or supporting sustainability programs at a national level would be considered an asset.
  • Relevant Professional Certification in sustainability would be considered an asset.
