Overview
Our client, an engineering firm specializing in renewable energy, water, and environmental solutions, is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead analysis and design of concrete and steel structures for hydroelectric and water resource projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. This role serves as a Project Manager or Technical Lead, overseeing multiple projects, deliverables, and client relationships. The position requires strong expertise in structural design, codes and standards, and modeling tools such as SAP2000, RISA-3D, and Revit. Candidates must have 10+ years of experience, proven leadership of engineering teams, and the ability to support projects from design through construction. Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and experience coordinating with clients, contractors, and regulatory processes are essential. This full-time position is open to candidates located in Peterborough, ON.
Pay range: $105,000 - $172,000 CAD DOE

Responsibilities:
Lead structural engineering analysis and design for hydroelectric, fisheries, and water resource projects Perform analysis and design of concrete and steel structures in and around water environments Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including hydrology/hydraulics, mechanical, electrical, and geotechnical engineers Serve as Project Manager or Technical Lead, overseeing project scope, schedule, and deliverables Manage and mentor project teams, including junior and senior engineers, drafters, and project coordinators Lead multiple projects concurrently, ensuring quality, consistency, and timely execution Interface with clients and support long-term relationship development Provide technical leadership across internal teams and guide engineering solutions from design through construction Support field activities, including coordination with clients and contractors during planning and construction phases Apply engineering problem-solving skills to complex structural challenges Support regulatory and permitting coordination as needed Mentor and develop junior staff and contribute to team growth
Requirements:
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural engineering concentration (BS, BSc, or BEng) Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience Experience with hydroelectric, fisheries, or water resource projects preferred Experience with specialty areas such as seismic design or finite element modeling preferred Strong knowledge of structural engineering codes and standards Experience designing concrete and steel structures, particularly in water-related environments Proficiency with structural modeling and design software (MathCAD, RISA-3D, SAP2000, AutoCAD, Revit) Experience working in the field with clients and contractors during project execution Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated experience managing or leading multidisciplinary project teams Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Experience with regulatory and permitting processes preferred Must be authorized to work in Canada and able to obtain authorization to work in the United States Willingness to travel within Canada and to the United States as needed Valid driver’s license required
