Manager of Environmental Projects & Services
Permanent / Full-Time / Non-Union
Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Director of Public Works, the Manager of Environmental Projects/Services is responsible for overseeing municipal waste management programs, environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and airport regulatory compliance. The position supports the Town’s sustainability goals by managing corporate waste programs, advancing waste diversion initiatives, and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
The Manager provides leadership in the general operations of the municipal landfill site, oversees environmental matters associated with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), and coordinates waste and recycling contracts. The role leads the planning, execution, and delivery of environmental and sustainability initiatives aimed at protecting and improving the environment, including watershed management initiatives for the municipality. The position also analyzes data, contributes to policy development, and leads education and outreach efforts for municipal staff and the community pertaining to environmental performance and climate action.
In addition, the Manager is responsible for overseeing compliance of the Town of Kirkland Lake’s airport with applicable municipal, provincial, and federal regulatory agencies.

Hours of work: 40 hours per week but must be prepared to work outside of regular working hours as necessary.

Compensation: $76,814 to $89,876 per annum (to commensurate with experience).

Minimum Qualifications:

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Environmental Studies, Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent.

Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal operations, environmental services, infrastructure management, or a related field, including supervisory, project management, or contract management responsibilities.

Demonstrated experience providing administrative support within a municipal environment.

Thorough knowledge of waste management operations and best practices, municipal government and by-laws.

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working within applicable environmental and waste‑related legislation, guidelines, policies, and regulatory frameworks, including the Environmental Protection Act (EPA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA), Federal Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations (WSER), and other related provincial and federal legislation, as applicable.

Excellent oral and written communication, along with strong facilitation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills are required;

Proven interpersonal and functional leadership abilities and the ability to deliver and implement strong operational standards and a consistent level of customer service;

Must show initiative, ability to receive and provide direction and ability to work with minimal supervision;

Demonstrated technological proficiency with a wide array of programs and applications.

Valid “G” Class Drivers License.
