Scrum Master — Remote, Ontario Contribute to a team at the heart of digital and analytics initiatives within the insurance sector. Benefit from a consistent Monday to Friday schedule from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm within a dynamic and supportive setting. What is in it for you: • Salaried: $55-65 per hour. • Incorporated Business Rate: $65-75 per hour. • 7-month contract. • Hybrid schedule, 37.5 hours per week. • Weekday schedule from 9 am to 5 pm. • Office presence required once per month. • Work location: Waterloo, Ontario, or Toronto, Ontario. Responsibilities: • Monitor Scrum processes and support the Product Owner with release planning and backlog management. • Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and daily standups. • Identify, manage, and help mitigate issues and risks, with particular emphasis on the timely removal of impediments for the team or directing obstacles to appropriate owners for quick resolution. • Ensure that proper documentation, including program vision statements, program backlogs, program roadmaps, release plans, sprint backlogs, and increments, is prioritized and added to the team backlog. • Support compliance with Sun Life policies and procedures for delivery and implementation. • Build high-performing teams through individual and team coaching. • Strengthen the team’s understanding of Agile and Scrum principles and ensure the application of these practices. • Ensure team actions are aligned with project goals and vision. • Provide transparency to Business, IT, and Operations stakeholders regarding team progress and Agile processes. • Identify trade-offs between short-term and long-term benefits to help drive a shared vision between the team and Product Owner. • Foster a continuous learning environment and support teams in adapting to changing circumstances. What you will need to succeed: Education & Certifications • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, or a Science-related discipline. • Certified Scrum Professional (CSP). • Scrum Coach certification (preferred). Required qualifications • 5+ years of IT project management experience. • 3+ years of experience in Agile delivery, transformation, training, or coaching. • Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum environments. • Experience applying Agile principles and managing team dynamics. • Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies, tracking team-level metrics, and removing blockers. • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). • Ability to address conflict directly, including private coaching conversations. • Ability to work effectively in a newly forming team with fresh turnover. • Reliability Clearance. Preferred qualifications • Delivery or software development background (preferred). • Experience coaching development teams (preferred). • Experience in the financial services or insurance industry (preferred). Soft skills • Strong communication skills with the ability to share information promptly and clearly. • Strong team leadership skills with the ability to assess team spirit, facilitate positive team dynamics, drive necessary actions to improve, and coach and mentor multiple roles on a Scrum team. • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills. • Skilled in building relationships, fostering trust and rapport, and navigating organizations. • High-energy and passionate outlook with the ability to influence others. • Assertive, with the confidence to be a voice of authority (preferred). • Well versed in navigating complex organizational structures and developing productive working relationships with internal stakeholders across the region and globally (preferred). Requirements
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree, a Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) certification, and at least 5 years of IT project management experience. Additionally, 3+ years of experience in Agile delivery or coaching and a strong understanding of the SDLC are required.
