Summary The Project Manager (Major Projects) is accountable for the safe, timely, and profitable delivery of high-voltage substation and powerline construction projects across Western Canada. This role is responsible for managing multiple major projects simultaneously and maintaining accountability for project financial performance, client satisfaction, risk management, and overall project execution. Through effective communication, negotiation, leadership, and conflict resolution, the Project Manager drives construction execution excellence while ensuring projects are delivered safely and efficiently. The Project Manager is constantly looking for opportunities to improve project delivery and enhance the customer experience. Through close collaboration with the Director of Projects, Construction Manager, Quality Manager, HSSE Manager, Engineering Team, Fleet Manager, and Field Supervisors, they ensure client expectations are consistently met or exceeded while fostering strong long-term partnerships. Qualifications College or University Degree in a related field and/or Substation Construction Supervision or Journeyperson experience. P.Eng designation preferred. PMP/PMI designation considered an asset. 10+ years of Project Management experience. 5+ years managing construction projects. 5+ years of Journeyperson experience in High Voltage Construction. Extensive experience in substation and powerline construction. Utility industry experience considered an asset. Skills Advanced project management, change management, and planning skills. Strong understanding of substation construction sequencing, methods, and industry best practices. Advanced financial acumen including forecasting, estimating, cost control, and accrual tracking. Strong knowledge of procurement strategies and purchasing processes. Proven ability to successfully deliver EPC projects. Understanding of engineering design principles and development processes. Ability to resolve complex technical and operational issues in a timely manner. Exceptional client engagement and relationship management skills. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Microsoft Project. Duties Define and manage project scope, budgets, and execution plans in collaboration with senior management. Develop and oversee project schedules, ensuring resources are effectively allocated. Develop and manage project financial forecasts that meet or exceed proposal margins. Establish project objectives, success metrics, and performance measures. Manage health, safety, and environmental incidents alongside clients and internal teams. Develop staffing plans in collaboration with Construction and Operations leadership. Procure subcontractor services and materials and ensure contracts and purchase orders are executed. Manage contractual commitments and oversee change order processes. Monitor and approve project expenditures and cost controls. Monitor cash flow forecasts and provide regular reporting to senior leadership. Ensure all scope changes are documented, approved, and reflected in project forecasts. Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation as required. Lead conflict resolution efforts with clients, team members, and stakeholders. Lead or participate in project handoffs, kickoffs, client meetings, and project reviews. Proactively manage project risks and issues with clients and internal teams. Manage project escalations to ensure safe and timely resolution. Ensure projects are closed out efficiently, including final deliverables and documentation. Ensure every team member gets home safely. Ensure projects are profitable and meet or exceed proposal margins. Build and maintain strong client relationships and long-term partnerships.
