The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) , a supra-municipal body having jurisdiction over the territory north of the 55 th parallel, notably provides technical assistance to the 14 villages of Nunavik.

 

The Municipal Public Works Department (MPW) of the KRG is responsible for the construction and improvement of infrastructure for the municipalities (sewage lagoons, water treatment plants, roads , and landfills) . The works are performed with the municipal equipment and employees under the supervision of a qualified supervisor . For the purpose of fulfilling this responsibility , KRG is currently looking for a person to fill the following position:

 

CIVIL WORK CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISOR

( Temporary 5 months – June to October )

 

Reporting to the D irector of the M unicipal public works d epartment , the C ivil work C onstruction S upervisor's duties and responsibilities will include, without being limited to:

Ensure execution of projects in accordance with the plans, specifications and guidelines as required by the P roject M anager;

Assist the N orthern Villages in planning, executing and completing seasonal projects as well as assist with the scheduling and maintenance of their heavy equipment ;

I n collaboration with the municipal manager , schedule and ensure daily tasks are completed ;

Provide daily progress reports to the Project M anager and propose practical solutions to problems that may arise;

Perform any other duties as requested by the Project Manager or the D epartment D irector .

 

Type s of on-going projects:

The candidate will often be called upon to supervise more than one project within the community . The type s of projects include, but are not limited to:

Construction of new wastewater lagoons , dumpsites , roads , and new building pads;

Retrofitting or repair work on existing infrastructures;

Clean-up and improvement work in landfills (bulldozing and covering waste, drainage, building a sedimentation pond, etc.);

Installation of gabions , guardrails , fences , culverts, street gutter, etc .

 

The selected candidate must:

Possess a civil engineering technician diploma or equivalent ;

Possess at least five (5) years of relevant experience in the civil works construction (roads, drainage structures , dykes, water lines, dumpsite s , fence s , etc);

Have e xperience with su rveying equipment (level, laser );

Be knowledgeable of MTQ standards;

Have a good understanding of various gravel fractions and mixtures suitable for various needs;

B e able to read plans and specification s ;

Be able to operate heavy equipment , considered an asset ;

Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages:  Inuktitut, English and French ;

Have a s trong ability to explain various tasks and concepts in simple terms;

B e reliable, show adaptability and d emonstrate ability to work efficiently with limited supervision;

Have s trong team work and relationship management competencies;

Have w orking knowledge of computer software applications, mainly Microsoft Office (is considered an asset) ;

Possess a valid driver's license .

 

Place of work: The selected candidate will be based in one of Nunavik's 14 communities for the duration of the contract but must be willing to travel frequently throughout the region.

 

Location: Nunavik

Salary: Min. $ 43 638 – Max. $ 74 216 per year based on 1 820 hours. Class 8

Other benefits: Room and board when traveling in other co mmunities paid by the Employer, group insurance, etc.
