Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, Applied AI Programs, the Director, Applied AI Projects will lead a team that plans and delivers applied AI projects that scale industry sponsors' capabilities to compete in the global economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a center of excellence to lead applied AI projects and practitioners and share knowledge of industry best practices;
  • Develop common project management methodologies, governance, tools, templates, and training;
  • Ensure successful project outcomes and metrics are a priority;
  • Oversee and ensure effective project delivery and sustainable project benefits;
  • Develop a clear process with industry sponsors to on-board and complete projects;
  • Provide the CEO and Vector senior management team with regular dashboard updates on progress (including risks and mitigation strategies);
  • Establish and manage critical paths, such that priorities can be set, communicated, and adjusted with awareness of the potential impact on quality, cost or timeliness;
  • Provide leadership and manage a high-performing team of project managers;
  • Identify and manage dependencies between the portfolio of projects;
  • Develop case studies for projects to share successes with industry sponsors, academia, government, and media; and
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Success Measures

  • Vector achieves its targets for the delivery of industry and health projects.
  • Applied AI projects provide high value to sponsors and contribute significantly to the delivery of Vector's long-term plans.
  • Project management methodologies, reporting and governance practices are consistent across a portfolio of projects.

Profile of the Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Engineering or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in senior project management roles, with a proven record of achievement and impact leading large scale and complex transformations
  • PMP, Process Improvement, and Agile certifications are considered assets
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities and expectations
  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to ensure continuity across project managers and balance workloads
  • Critical-thinker and excellent judgement skills
  • Ability to leading training/presentations to diverse audiences
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment
  • Works effectively with partners and stakeholders across multiple organizations
  • Communicates complex ideas clearly – both verbally and in writing
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated aptitude for analytics and technology is an asset
