Senior Project Manager, Enterprise Solutions

Hamilton, ON

Are you a proven leader and excel at managing teams? Do you enjoy initiating, co-ordinating and delivering on high-level city projects? If so, an engaging career opportunity with the City of Hamilton Information Services is awaiting you.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Strategy and Architecture, you'll inspire by providing leadership to staff in a matrixed team environment to deliver on enterprise-wide IT projects on behalf of the Information Services Division. Possessing a keen eye for detail and aware of emerging technologies, you will oversee all aspects of assigned projects – outlining goals, developing work break-down structures, establishing costs and timeframes and facilitating technical requirements in order to meet project needs and requirements.

Coordinating between your team, other Project Managers, City staff, consultants, contractors, stakeholders and regulatory organizations, you will be responsible for establishing roles and performance expectations, creating work schedules, negotiating terms, providing feedback and ensuring the effective communication between all the parties involved. While working in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, City of Hamilton policies and project management standards, meeting with customers to review their strategic goals and project progress is key to this public role.

Also adept in financial planning, you'll review all program costs, operational budgets, staffing requirements and project resources to ensure all new or changed deliverables (i.e. product, service or process) of varying size and complexity are met. As discrepancies arise and priorities change, you'll assess the risk and impact of requests, resolve issues, re-allocate funds, and ultimately make recommendations on the feasibility and implementation of these proposed changes and how they affect deliverables.

Your qualifications as a Senior Project Manager include:

  • Developed understanding of Computer Science or related discipline, web applications and technologies normally acquired by attaining a University Degree in Computer Technology or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technology work experience, preferably with hands-on technology exposure.
  • PMP Certification or in progress.
  • Progressive project experience managing the delivery of IT initiatives through large and complex project(s) or program(s), as well as through professional conduct and accreditation.
  • A passion for results and customer satisfaction which is driven by your ability to see the big picture.
  • Highly-developed ability to articulate a vision to lead and inspire others.
  • Highly effective leadership, facilitation, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Experience in creating and delivering customer-focused programs and services on strategic matters.
  • Excellent critical thinking, evaluation and analytical skills and the ability for long-term visioning and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting  with the ability to lead and train professional and technical team members.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to effectively and realistically apply structured Project Management methodologies.
  • Proven experience and success leading multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a multi-disciplinary staff in a predominantly unionized environment.
  • Ability to deal effectively with elected officials, representatives of other levels of government, management, peers, staff and the general public.
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining process.
  • Working knowledge of relevant computer software applications.

NOTE:

  • The incumbent shall comply with all health and safety policies and practices for this position and the workplace.

This is one permanent, full-time position and one temporary (12 months) position. The salary wage range of $49.071 to $57.391 per hour (based on a 35-hour work week schedule).
