Project Risk Specialist

The purpose of this position is to ensure the CNL Project Risk Management framework is consistently applied across all CNL business units. This position will provide essential technical support for calculating probabilistic risk outcomes and making recommendations on cost and schedule risk reserves to project teams and CNL management. This position will be an important part of demonstrating CNL's approach to proactive risk stewardship.


  • Understanding project controls processes and assists project teams in applying project risk management functions in the context of tracking, forecasting, analysing, and reporting of project costs, schedules, and key performance indicators
  • Providing guidance, direction, recommendations, and specialized assistance to project managers for the resolution of complex project risk management issues
  • Representing the Program Management Office as an expert in project risk management practices and theory
  • Providing comprehensive, reliable data analysis, and identify trends and provide summary analysis and risk evaluation for Mission project management and PMO leadership
  • Analyse complex information from multiple stakeholders and data sources (including Primavera P6 schedules, Fuse, budgets, narrative plans, WBS Dictionaries, and monthly reports) in order to identify and resolve interdependencies and inconsistencies in data provided by contributors to the risk management process
  • Preparing reports, presentations and providing support to senior management regarding the state of projects or specific project management issues and programs
  • Support developing, implementing and maintaining project risk management methodologies, procedures and tools, including proactive identification, evaluation, and monitoring of risk and opportunity in the project management environment, including risk response planning and execution of risk management
  • Support developing, implementing, and maintaining a system to gather and communicate archived project risks / lessons learned to assist project teams in developing robust risk management plans and registers
  • Conducting Risk Register reviews and facilitating risk review meetings with project teams
  • Promoting effective quality assurance and integration of project risk and schedules to perform schedule risk analysis, including Monte Carlo analysis using Primavera Risk Analysis software
  • Developing and delivering project and portfolio risk management guidelines, training, presentations, and workshops to ensure the risk management process is of high quality and adds value to the organization
  • Coordinates meetings and workshops, preparing agendas and papers, taking notes, circulating actions, and monitoring follow-up
  • Regular driving between office locations, i.e. CRL to Deep River will be required
  • Other duties as required


  • University degree in an engineering or business, project or risk management related discipline with a minimum 5 years of experience
  • PMP/ PMI-RMP certification with PMI and/or DRMP certification with AACE International considered assets
  • Practical knowledge and experience with project cost, schedule, and risk management practices
  • Experience with project risk management, compliance management, project lifecycle stage gating, and/or quality assurance and control
  • Good theoretical and practical understanding of statistical methods, probability, and risk analysis processes and tools
  • Must have knowledge and experience using Primavera P6 scheduling software
  • Must have knowledge and experience using Primavera Risk Analysis software
  • Knowledge and experience with Acumen Fuse software is a benefit
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel software, MS Word and PowerPoint software
  • Proven ability to perform in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize workload and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively and successfully building relationships with various audience levels, both verbally and in written form in mediums from email to procedures and presentations. This includes the ability to effectively interact with management, peers, internal and external stakeholders network
