Rebellious Project Manager

We are on the hunt for an experienced Project Manager to help us get a major project over the line. Initial focus of the role will be Project Manager assigned to the opening of our brand new Hotel Zed, in world-famous Tofino, British Columbia. Hotel Zed, named one of the Top Five Most Instagrammable Hotels in World by TripAdvisor, will be the coolest thing to hit Tofino since Tacofino. It will include a 91-room hotel, on site staff accommodations, a plethora of unordinary guest experiences (mini golf and a retro arcade, for starters!) and a new restaurant all set to open over the course of the next two years.

You are a strong leader who will oversee every phase of the project to achieve operational success upon opening. This includes staffing, training and onboarding, marketing, purchasing, room readiness, room set-up, etc. Everything except construction!

To help keep us all on track, you will schedule and facilitate team meetings with key stakeholders and functional area owners, setting agenda items, taking notes, managing changes and relentlessly following up on action items. The Rebellious Project Manager must be highly organized, detail-oriented and committed to an exceptional quality of work. You are a natural problem solver, a strong communicator, unflappable under pressure and are at home working to tight deadlines and deliverables. You can hold your own in a group discussion and you maintain a strong sense of confidentiality and professionalism on the team.

Responsibilities

  • Build project outlines in collaboration with key stakeholders and functional owners
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for flawless execution of the project
  • Develop and maintain clear project plans and monitor and track progress
  • Report to senior leadership on potential project risks, identifying potential solutions and helping clear roadblocks to the project
  • Take notes in project meetings, distribute amongst the team and follow up and track status of action items
  • Effectively manage change requests to scope and schedule
  • Build and maintain relationships with any third parties/vendors as needed

Qualifications

  • At least three years' Project Management experience, preferably in the hospitality or similar industry (no prior construction experience necessary)
  • Experience and understanding of agile methodologies
  • Solid understanding of technical concepts
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Solid scheduling and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently
  • Hands on experience with modern project management software
  • Strong command of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Located in the Victoria, B.C. area

Pluses

  • Post-secondary education
  • PMP certification
  • Successful completion and delivery of one or more hospitality projects
