As our Project Manager (PM) your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert leadership and assistance on the implementation of significant infrastructure and construction projects to Facilities & Ancillary Services (FAS). This includes the expertise to plan, direct, and support major and minor capital projects that support institutional strategy through timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Directly undertaking the project management of an enterprise or departmental infrastructure initiatives as directed by the Associate Vice-President, Facilities & Ancillary Services (AVP).
  • Supporting the Facilities & Ancillary Services (FAS) division by applying industry-recognized project management methodologies based on standard project management tools and processes such as project charters, work plans, governance plans, work breakdown structures, communication plans, risk analysis and standardized forms and templates.
  • Negotiating contracts with architectural, engineering, and construction suppliers and contractors.
  • Tracking projects to ensure they are on course and following approved methodologies. This includes construction budgets, schedules, and records.
  • Ensuring all new developments meet institutionalized building standards, regulations, and codes.
  • Maintaining a portfolio of projects with key metrics such as progress to plan, budget and human resource utilization, anticipated value and risks.
  • Coordinating communication pertaining to construction activities as well as liaise with third parties and stakeholders.
  • Using effective and positive change management practice, lead the organization through periods of ambiguity and reinvention.
  • Interpreting and apply collective agreements and act as arbitrator, communicator, and liaison for labour relations.
  • Maintaining construction documentation including drawings, blueprints, schematics, and inventory records.
  • Being an active and supportive member of a centralized, customer-focused office that plans, negotiates and analyzes projects as well as responds to project-related concerns of clients, sponsors and staff.
  • Providing in-house consultancy services to project teams on project- related issues.
  • In consultation with the AVP, prepare project report documentation, agenda items, and meeting materials for regularly scheduled project Governance meetings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Minimum 10 years' progressively advancing experience in construction project management roles
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in management roles
  • Minimum 3 years' of hands-on design and planning experience addressing large-scale development initiatives
  • Minimum 2 years' managing a diverse project portfolio
  • Demonstrated understanding of unique business drivers that support the delivery of higher education.
  • Ability to train, motivate, mentor, and inspire teams and individual team members.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, risk management, and change management.
